470 NE full loads with cast Lead bullets?
Can full loads (ie 85gr R15) be used with lead cast bullets ?. Woodleighs have gotten a little too expensive to practice with.

I have been shooting cast in my 470NE merkel without any problems, the bullets that I use are hard cast & gas checked.

Chris,

I've shot them with that load. I do use fiber filler when I do that ... and I have a Searcy.

Bill tell me again who makes the bullets you use, and are they already sized properly for your Merkel? I've long since gotten rid of all my casting stuff, and don't need to buy all that stuff again.

I would not shoot them with RL-15 in my double rifle..I would opt for 45 grs. of XMP-5744 and a 500 gr. bullet.

Practice rounds for my 450 3 1/4 NE
I have replaced Woodleigh's 480 gr bullet with Hawk's 350 gr bullet over the same powder charge and filler and am fortunate to have the same point of impact with considerable less recoil but enough recoil so that recoil management is still in the practice regime...
Bye the Bye it makes a great pig load...
