I just received my 450/400 Heym today, I am more then pleased with the gun, the looks are really great and the balance is wonderful, the gun really fits, you point with your eyes closed and then open them and you are looking at your sights.

This is my second Heym, and the work is excellent. All I have to do now is find some brass so I can load some bullets.

I've got 300 rounds of brass that should be here next week. Call me and I'll send you some.

Gee Chris, will you send me some 500 brass for my rifle, while your at it some GS solids and Woodie softs, Kynoch #2 wads, and five lbs of R-15 for the break-in.

I have a 450/400 3 1/4" British double rifle.

I have taken quite a bit of game wth it from deer, wild pigs, caribou and black bear in NA as well as African game including cape buff, lion and bull elephant.

I have shot the Heym 450/400 3", and consider it the best buy, in a new made double, for todays sport hunter.

In fact I shot 60 rounds yesterday out of my 400at the range.
It is a great calibre.

The Heym is perfectly proportioned in .400. The weight distribution is excellent as is the balance, so it handles great. A friend has been wringing his out for a couple months now, and loves it.

I hear the first elephant taken with a Heym .400 was shot recently.

Whew, you are getting touchy now.

I doubt every Heym 450/400 that leaves the factory weighs exactly the same. Manufacturers do not generally have high marks for accurately representing the weight of any given model for all the obvious reasons.

What if I sign an affadavit that I shall never doubt any word that you type from now on?

I've had two Heym doubles (another is on the way), Searcy double, two Merkle's, one Chapuis none of them weighed the factory advertized weight. They varied at times over half to three quarters of a pound and they were always heavier than advertized except the Searcy double.

This is the second double Heym I have bought from Double Gun Imports, very happy with service, had questions about the 470 NE I bought 1 or 2 years ago, Chris is always there to answer any questions.

This rifle has been regulated with Hornady ammo, is anyone handloading guns that were regulated with Hornady ?

gi, congratulations on your new 450/400 3" Heym, they are truley well made double rifles! I had the pleasure of shooting one of the PH models chambered for 450/400NE 3" rifles down at the 4K ranch last June. It was windy, and we had a line stretched between two trees, with baloons attached. Even with the wind bounceing the baloons around, it was quite easy to do double tap breaking two baloons whit two shots every time! That is an indication of a well ballanced, and well fitted double rifle with excellent sights! IMO, the PH, or even the up grade Heym 450/400NE 3" doubles are value for money spent! Chris is a good guy to deal with as well, dealer, and rifle,top notch all the way!

I am simply envious of you new possession, and I too have owned a couple of the Heym 88s in the past, and wish I had kept them!

Chris, I think you monitor this thread, what do you load in your 450/400, I have spoken with people who really liked your 450/500.

Are you going to try to hunt with it this year?

George - I've used IMR and H4831. My rifle prefers the H4831. With the factory softs, I get my best groups with 82gr of H4831, but back off of that a bit and work them up on your own.

Here is 6 shots (one flyer - R1) at 50 with that load. I could bring them closer together with a little more powder, but this same load shoots under 2.5" at 100... so I've left it alone.



Here's 4 shots of the same load at 100. I did bump my rear sight over a bit to correct the windage.

selected this exact rifle that you have.

After REAL CLOSE EXAMINATION by myself and several friends, I REALLY appreciate the fine workmanship on my new 450/400, the tolerances are really there, metal workmanship and also the wood to metal fit are there.
I have examined other doubles, along with my friends,(Cabelas has 4 presently in Gonzales LA.) and not to name brand names, they don't come close to the quality of the Heym.
All I need now is for the gun to shoot as god as it looks. If it shoots like the 470, it will be a winner.

I would put money down that it will. If not, than you are either not recoil tolerant or something is wrong with the components (powder, brass, bullets) - from what I have seen, handled, shot and experienced, Heym are damn fine rifles.

Hi Chris I see that H4831 is ADI 2213sc same same so I'll work up my loads for my heym DR as well.
