Heym 30/30 O/U
Had a chance to do a little hunting with my Heym 26 B Schwarzkittel, in 30/30.
I have a 4x Leupold Compact mounted on it.

The more I hunt with this little gun the more I like it.

I killed 3 deer with it one at 46 yards, one at 37 yards and one at @15 to 18 yards.

I killed 2 wild pigs, both at 80 yards, one was an honest 195 to 215 pounder, the other about 160 to 175 lbs.

I also shot 2 coyotes, one at 106 yards and one at 166 yards, both distances lazered.

I used the Hornady Leverevolution 160gr on the coyotes and one pig and one deer.

I used the Federal 170 RN on everything else.

As stated in a previous post, the first week of the season I shot a coyote and a turkey as well.

One of the nice things about this double is that the recoil is so low, when you shoot you, can most often see the impact, or the reaction of the animal to the shot. You never loose the animal in the scope.

This is becomming my favorite walking stalking deer and wild pig rifle.

Talked to JJ on Monday.
He just received one of the new Chapuis doubles
in 30/30 on the 28ga size frame. He thought it might be ava. in the RGX grade. It had 21 or 22
inch barrels. Told him if they would make it in
24 inch I'd order one.
What barrel length is your Heym?

They are 22 inches.
On a 30/30 double I would think 21 or 22 inches would be perfect.

I would not want the Heym barrels any longer.

I do prefer 26 to 28" barrels on a 40 and up double but for a 30/30, I think the shorter ones are better.

Thanks
Glad the short barrels are working. I thought maybe in light double longer barrels would feel
better. I think JJ told me the gun was under 6lbs.

NE: Sounds elegantly efficient. Have you shared photos of it somewhere?

I like the looks of that. I would think that the light recoil of the 30-30 would help with regulation and further allow for the short barrels. On the other hand if you wanted the longer barrls that would be fine too.

I would be realy interested in this if it wer'nt so close to what I alresdy have in my o/u 8x57 Merkel. I would like to see that chapuis. That sounds like a sexy little double.

Stop and think about it gentlemen, how many 30-30 rifles were ever made with longer barrels than 20 inches? 2o" inch barrels with a 1 in 10" twist is perfect for the 30-30 cartridge! In a double that makes fine brush country deer rifle, or on a sling to follow dogs on mountain lion or black bear!
