So now the proud owner of a Merkel in 500 NE with ejectors and game scenes

. Nice wood and feels good in hand. Just waiting on the components (Jamison brass, dies, variety of bullets) to do some reloading for it as well as the Norma PH loaded ammo to arrive (I hate buying loaded ammo, but I like nickel cases in straight-walled calibers).
So do I need to fill out some special paperwork and do some special dance for YouTube to be a member of the DRSS?

GarByCongrats, Paul...and welcome to the club. I know you'll enjoy that Merkel. She'll kick a bit in the 500 as the merk's are just a touch light in 500...I had a 470 that weighed about a pound more than the 500's.
Mine was very accurate and had no issues whatsoever. Would have still had her too....but once the bug bites....LOOK OUT.

I'm pretty sure that first you have to provide pictures of the qualifying rifle...

As long as I don't have to provide pictures of me - that would be considered cruel and unusual punishment to any who accidentally happened upon them

Thanks Rusty.
Will take and post pictures later today. Looking forward to having some fun.
Looks like I will be taking a
few heavyweights to Zimbabwe on September 1st - 500NE, 585AHR (my dad will be using this) and my 600OK.

ozhunterIf you decide to get a front bead for it in lieu of the Partridge post sight, then RECKNAGEL make them. They also offer ones with a flip up white moon sight.

I assume that one of the photos is a mirror image?
Nice double!

Yes, Judge, that's why the date/time stamp is mirrored image.
I had a .500 NE Merkel for about two years. I really enjoyed, but it is too light for caliber - it smacks you pretty hard and I am not recoil sensitive.
Enjoy it. I did.

Yes - when I rotated the picture in Photobucket, I must have inverted it instead of just rotating it.

After I do a bit of playing with it, I might need to have some modifications to the butt pad and weight. Just had my 600 Overkill lightened to around 11 pounds, but of course the stock design and recoil pad are worlds different than that on the Merkel.

Bill CooleyPaul,
I think it’s kind of neat that a .500 double looks kind of small next to your 600.
You guys are going to be in trouble with the ultra light gun police, talking about adding weight. I think a good recoil pad and some weight say 2 mercury reducers would be a good way to go.
Have fun and give us a range report.

Thought my reloading components were going to be here today - can't give it a whirl until I either have some ammo or make my own. Either way, when I do go I'll be sure to take some video and pictures and post a comparison to the 600OK and 585AHR.
Thanks,
Paul
