mikehunt470ne lead loads
a friend of mine just got a 470 ne in a double. i cant remember what brand it is but was hoping some one would help me with some sujestions for a reduced 500 grain lead load.
any help will be appreciated. thanks

MartyI use 35gr XMP 5744 over a Fed 215. I have the RCBS 500gr mould. This was the practice load suggested by Butch. It yields about 1200 fps. These are candy to shoot, and brass should last damn near forever. The velocity seems low enough to avoid leading.

Magnolia SlimI use Mt. Baldy 510gr FNGC, 36.5 grs of Trail Boss, and a CCI #200 for 1263 fps. Very accurate.
Also same bullet and primer with 50.0 grs. of AA5744 for 1643 fps. Also very accurate.

Idaho SharpshooterI might have to call Laser-Cast and see what they have in a GC bullet for the 475 Linebaugh/480 Ruger.

Dave BushA very nice load to shoot is a 500 grain Hawk (.035 jacket), 87 grains of Reloader 15 and a Kynoch No.2 foam wad. The recoil from this load is very manageable and the Hawks really are fun to shoot at bowling pins and water jugs. In my rifle, because of the ogive on the Hawks, I have to seat them a bit deeper. I think somewhere around 3.765 or so.
When I got my .470 from Searcy, the practice load was 45 Gr. of 5744.

Got this data from Accurate per a request for data for 520grain lead bullets.
We suggest the following.
Caliber: .470 NE Nitro Express
Case Volume: 9.48cc/146grains H2O.
Barrel length: 24”
Bullet weight: 520 grain.
Low load: 41.0 grains (approx 1300 – 1400 Fps)
Mid range load: 49.5 grains (approx 1500 - 1550 Fps)
Maximum load: 58.0 grains (approx 1600 – 1700 Fps)
NOTES:
It’ important to note that SAFETY is our prime concern therefore we strongly recommend.
1. Caution re A-5744: Take care that double charging does not occur! Especially at low load levels.
2. TO ALWAYS BEGIN LOADING AT THE RECOMMENDED MINIMUM “START” LOAD and develop loads in 2% increments towards the MAXIMUM load.
3. If possible, measure the velocity and correlate with our data.
