BwannaChapuis Regulation
So I just impluse purchased a Chapuis 470 Safari on the classifieds.
http://forums.accuratereloadin...2711043/m/9831020251What ammo are these guns factory regulated for?
Does anyone have one of these with a good regulating hand load?

Dave BushBwanna:
The first step might be to call either Daly Nygaard at Heirloom Arms or Ken at Kebco LLC. They both sell Chapuis doubles and they could probably tell you what ammo Chapuis uses to regulate their .470s. Wasn't there any paperwork that came with the gun? Usually the paperwork tells you what ammo was used along with the regulation target.
I have a .470 but it is a Blaser. I will send you some of my load data tonight. I will also let you know what data appears in Graeme Wright's book. At least that will give you a starting point.
Can I ask, how much does your Chapuis weigh?

BwannaCan't tell you either, because I don't have it yet

The paperwork is with the original owner, and I'm hoping to obtain it at some point in the future. I'll keep you posted.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! 7kongoniJJ Perodeau ordered a Chapius 470 for me a couple of years ago....he said it was regulated with Federal ammo. The test target looked like crap--about a 4 inch spread. He rolled his eyes and said the rifle would shoot better than that. It does. My starting load was 79 gr of IMR 3031 w/2 poly and a 500gr Hornady @2050fps. I used that load to take an ele bull in Botswana with no problems.

bobgrowMy 470 Chapuis was regulated with Kynoch 500gr solids.
The load that works for me is 106gr of IMR 4831,500gr Woodie SP at 2150 fps....start lower!

sroseBwanna,
You might want to take a look at The Double Rifle Bullet of the Furture thread if you haven't followed that. Michael M and I did lots of tests with my Chapuis 470. Many different bullets and fillers were used. I have found that my rifle shoots perfect with 106 grs of IMR4831 and one 1/8 inch card wad. This load worked well with just about every bullet tried. One other note we tested 75 grs of IMR3031 and got 1964 fps average and pressure was about max. I would be careful with the 79 gr load especially if you are using Dacron filler. We had lots of pressure spikes when using dacron filler.

SchlumI allso bought a Chapuis DR recently and wondered what ammunition and how it had been regulated. I send a mail to Chapuis with serial number, but got no reply. Quite disapointing from a gunmaker in this pricerange...

sroseIt should tell you what the gun was regulated with on the test target. If you didn't get one I'll be glad to look and see what my target says.

sroseI found my Chapuis regulation target for my 470. It was regulated with Federal ammo with the weldcore softpoint. My gun shoots perfect with 106 grains of IMR 4831 and the Woodleigh weldcore soft point.
