Bespoke Verney-Carron .500 Nitro

DoubleDonBespoke Verney-Carron .500 Nitro
Gents
Many of my AR friends know that I ordered a bespoke Verney-Carron .500 from Ken Buch of KEBCO last September. I received it in May.
After owning about 100 doubles over the past 35 years, it was time to order one "my way". Many people have inquired what I ordered and wanted to see pictures.
Well, I figured I would get it over in one bite, so here goes.
Many thanks to Ken at KEBCO as well as Jerome Lanoue at Verney-Carron for helping to make my personal dream "working double" come true.
I'm sure that everyone would have done this and that a bit differently, but this was my way.

AZUR Safari Luxe.
25 5/8" ejector barrels.
Weight between 11 1/2-12# balancd at or slightly forward of the hinge pin.
Double triggers, front articulated, both checkered. Must be crisp.
Moustache type reinforcement with bottom rounded as much as possible. Moustache to taper and end under receiver into H&H type filet. French grey.
Upgraded rose and scroll engraving to be discreetly signed by the engraver.
Upgraded wood. Tear drops behind panels. Palm swell. Shadowline cheekpiece. Round pad at heel.
Steel grip cap with reservoir. With spare strikers and springs fitted to the gun.
1 standing bar with 2 folding wide, shallow "V" rear sights with gold vertical lines.
Fold over night sight.
"Calibre .500 Nitro" in gold on rib.
Rolled edge trigger guard.
H&H type extended top strap over comb.
Regulated with Hornady ammo.
Made to my dimensions (based upon my shotgun dimensions of 14 5/8" x 1 3/8" x 2 3/8" with 3/8" cast off).
I received the gun in May. It fits like it was made for me. Shoots very well (haven't shot the factory stuff but shoots great with my handloads with Woodleigh bullets). Made as I had ordered it. Finished out at 11# 9 oz.. I am well pleased to say the least!
I hope to whack an ele or two in Zim in Sept. or Oct..
Now all I have to do is wait for my bespoke Verney-Carron .577 to arrive (with stalking safety, to weigh in at 13 1/2-14# "BOLTED" and "SAFE" in gold as well).
I took some photos today. I'm too computer stupid to post them. Any volunteers to help my dumb ass?
Thanks again to Ken and Jerome!

MJinesI would be proud to hunt elephant with that rifle.
Mike
That is a beautiful rifle! However they did spell "caliber" incorrectly! The wood however is gorgeous. Weight is correct for that "calibre".
Who are you hunting with?
Peter.
Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong;
11 July 2010, 02:21
DoubleDonIndeed Peter, the "calibre" thing lost something in the translation.

Hopefully, the ele won't notice.

The small stuff will make you crazy if you allow it.
I planned to hunt with Chris Moore in Deka. Kinda/sorta, IF I EVER hear back from him.

Hollis PerkinsDon,
That is an absolutely kick ass piece of wood, and I agree with your specs on the rifle.
Regards,
Hollis
Don Now I see why you sold your others...nice rifle! I don't care how much they charge for "over the tang" extensions....extended tangs and nice wood push the right buttons for me!

Beautiful rifle.
I hunt, not to kill, but in order not to have played golf....

BigFiveJackQuite a beauty! You're going to love it more and more over time.
May I ask if this rifle is fitted with interceping sears? Once again
we hear of Ken at KEBCO connecting a customer with a rifle that
is a winner! His reputation continues it's ascent.
Jack

No intercepting sears. Although very nice, I did not feel a necessity. Had to stop the money flowing somewhere.

That being said, I ordered my upcoming bespoke V-C .577 with a stalking safety. The stalking safety with intercepting sears is a package deal. They come together. Expensive, yes. I decided bite the bullet (no pun intended) and add it to the next gun.
Hopefully I will be able to post it in the not too distant future.
My intent is not to bring and bragg. My intent is to share my thoughts and ideas with others.

Don,
I personally enjoy seeing other people's guns and have learned a lot by reading the decriptions that go along with the photos.
If this is considered bragging, then by all means continue to do so.
Thanks,

BigFiveJackDouble Don,
If showing us this new rifle and describing details of it's characteristics is bragging,
there's been a million braggarts before you, and a million more "a commin'"! {ME
being one of the former.} I also say it isn't bragging when we WANT to hear and see
all this. I come to AR especially for the DR stuff most of the times that I stop in! I
say bring it on.
