Krieghoff Big Five

I have shot a Krieghoff and handled several of them.
At the last DRSS hunt/shoot 2 guys had new Krieghoff 470's and they looked very good and shoat good too.

A lot of double rifle traditionalist just can not warm up to the combi cocking device.

However using a Blaser R 93 and a Blaser K 95 with a similar "device" I would not have any problem using a Krieghoff.

The advise I would give you, is to shoot the rifle a lot untill its controls are second nature.

Then buy you and "it" a ticket to Africa.

PS if you have a scoped Chapuis 9.3x74R and a Krieghoff then you need to buy 3 tickest to Africa.
The 9,3 and the 470 is a perfect pair.

Nice trim guns. Well built. Usually very accurate. Good sights. Great triggers that can't be doubled (some DRSS members will tell you that is a good thing when I shoot a double) and one of the few doubles that can be carried loaded under any conditions in complete safety.

Down sides...Plain grades are not great looking guns with a palm swell and semi-schnable forend. Stock a bit high for most people and shallow opening arch for loading and unloading.

The PH I hunted with in Zim has one, also in 470, and loves it.

I handled his and it was a nice handleing rifle. Trim and not too heavy.

I'm one of those guys that can't warm up to the cocking peice, but that is because I'm so used to regular tang safeties. Even so, I could get used to it pretty quickly. And the safety of the rifle is a plus.

It needs to take you to Africa.

Though I haven't fired one the straight stock should minimize the recoil. No ejectors though.

Just took a very nice old dugga boy in the Zambizi Delta swamps with my Classic Big Five in 500/416 last week. Checked zero upon arrival with the pivot mounted S&B 1.1-4. Spot on at 100 yards after the trip.

Used Woodleigh 410 softs and solids loaded according to the Krieghoff published information which performed well.

I then used my 9.3x74R barrels to take a very nice bush buck and hunted Nyala with them. Never got the Nyala but the 9.3 worked well on a 150 yard shot for the bushbuck.

There are varying opinions here and they can speak all the trash they want. I love mine, it's a great rifle and it'll be in my possession until I can hunt no longer. Gee, I never even noticed the safety when the time came. Imagine that, practice and experience with it actually worked under the stress of field conditions and close encounters.

I have taken 3 buff with mine, excellent double. Two of them were a double on a cull hunt, "up front and personal" in the long grass. My PH has one in 500NE for his stopper.

mine is a 500NE 3", nine-point-five lounds empty. Will shoot the Kynoch ammunition under an inch for four shots (!) at fifty yards. Recoil is very much like a 10gauge with goose loads..heavy not sharp.

It will never leave me.

I have heard bad things about Romey ammo. I would (if I didn't want to reload) use Kynoch or call Superior Ammo.

I agree. I've fired Romey ammo in two double rifles. It varied from simply poor to dangerous. I know of one double that was blown up with it. Avoid.
