I would think that removing some .040" in the case head area would be counter productive in this case as the Baikal is not rated for higher pressures even in the .45-70. Just an observation.

What is the longest 45 cartridge you could ream this out to? Throat it really long and shoot heavy bullets seated way out. Put some recoil reducers in it and a good recoil pad...I'm already dreaming.

I'm thinking 258gr CEB ESP Tipped Raptor.

Unless there is some reason monometals should not be used in these rifles as has been alluded to on another website.
