Hawk Bullets
Anybody have experience with Hawk bullets? (if this has been beaten to death in earlier threads, disregard).

Hog Killer
I would classify them as plinkers. Used the better stuff on game animals.

From what I've seen on various forums over the years, they are fine if not driven fast, say below 2200 or so. They are available in many obsolete diameters (I believe they are now the only source for jacketed bullets for the .33 WCF). One shooter reported diameters being off a smidge, so you might want to measure a few if you get a batch.

If I recall correctly, NE 450 No 2 is a big fan of hawk bullets. Might want to touoch base with him.

I have shot quite a few Hawk bullets in .408" diameter 300gr in a Sharps 40-70ss. Driven to about 1900fps they are phenomenal killers on medium and large sized hogs. I even killed two hogs with one shot (didn't realize the second one was shoulder to shoulder with the first) and a Hawk. I generally recover the bullet under the offside skin if both shoulders are hit and the hog is larger than 200lbs.

I have no idea how they would work on heavier game or different velocities.

1996 I killed a Brown bear in alaska with a .375 H&H using 300 gr Hawk hand Loads and it worked just fine. I have to look at the load but I think it was 24-25 hundred ft per second.

I have shot several deer, pigs, and impala with the 286gr .035jkt in my 9,3x74R.

I have shot one deer and several pigs with the 300gr .025jkt .408 diameter bullet in my 450/400 double, and one pig with the 400gr .035jkt in the 450/400.

The ONLY animal that tood a step after being hit with a Hawk was one pig that ran about 20 ft.

I recover a bullet about half the time. They make a huge mushroom.

At the velocities I drive them they are excellent.

9,3's @2250fps
300gr 450/400 @2330fps
400gr 450/400's @2175fps.
