I wonder if this rifle would be worth restoring & what it would cost to restore?

At about $2,500-$3,000 initial investment, have the hinge pin redone and the stock refinished, and you'd have a nice mid-bore double for $5K or less.

Great buy if you can get it for L2k.

Without knowing what the bores are like, it could be a diamond in the rough or just a rock.

Based on the honest wear or the stock only, that rifle has been shot a lot. The bores could be wasted.

Diggory Hadoke will check the rifle out for you in person for a small fee and give you a detailed report in advance of the auction.

As was already said, depends on the bores and how cheaply it can be bought.

Had the same thought. Ask Holts for a complete description. The one they sent me was pretty thorough and still has me thinking. Not saying it wouldn't be a good investment, but even if the hammer price was only $2k, after purchasing fees, shipping and import fees and maybe some barrel work on top of what has already been mentioned it may be a little too deep for ending up with a worn rifle. But maybe not!

Anybody have experience with having modern firearms shipped to the US from England? How bad & costly is it?

I have used Champlin Firearms in the past. Benn several years ago, but reasonable I thought at the time

Ken at Kebco does it frequently, as does Griffin & Howe.

I am not even sure I would do that. Have it put on face, re-cut the checkering, put a nice silvers pad on it...done. Frankly, if word gets out that the barrels are not toast, this rifle will go for a good bit more than 2K pounds I suspect. Just the guys on this thread (much less this board) will see to that.

Thanks for the info on shipping guys. Will be interesting to see what this one goes for, and would be even more interesting to see what it would take to get it up and running.
