muntyReloading .450 Nitro (reduced loads)
Hi everyone, I'm new to the site, but been hunting (stalking in the UK) for many years. I'm just about to acquire a double in this calibre and would welcome advice about powders, loads and reduced loads etc.
I run all my reloading data through 'Quickload' and always start well below maximum and work up. However, I have never tried reduced loads and would grateful for advice from anyone who has.
Regards to all

cal pappasMunty:
The 75% rule will work well for you. Same power charge as the original load (I use 95 grains of IMR 4831) and a bullet of 75% of the weight. In this case a 350-grain bullet from Hornday works just fine.
There are lots of avenues you can follow and each rifle is unique. You may try the nitro for black load and that may work in your rifle. If you get a new rifle made, you can get it regulated to shoot any charge you wish. For vintage rifles, the 75% rule is the best and easiest place to start.
Good luck and welcome to AR and the world of double rifles. For some good pics on doubles, check out my website: <calpappas.com> and email if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Cal

ZephyrWelcome to AR and congrats on aquiring your double.
+1 On Cal's 350gr bullet suggestions and reduced loads. I am currently shooting H4831 in my 450 me and in the past have had good luck with R15 and a filler I have also have a 3031 load with a filler that exits the gun at 1900fps and shoots to POI. There is a group here that has had success with Trail Boss and reduced loads.
Best of luck with your new adventure.
