steve davisNew to doubles
Just purchased my first double. Krieghoff 470. I haven't shot it yet and wanted to know does it matter about ammo if I'm just shooting at paper or are there types I should stay away from totally.

pagosawingnutWhat ammo was the rifle regulated for. Do you plan on reloading for it? How many rounds do you plan on shooting per year........... So many questions. Try all of the ammo available which also enables you to become more familiar with it.

Bill73Learn how to reload if you want the most out of your gun,to be good at handling your new rifle you need to shoot it a lot, factory ammo is expensive,I load for all my guns,it allows me a lot of range time at a reasonable expense, and you will learn as you go along all the ins and outs of the ammo out there.

MikeBurkeSteve,
If you do not reload Hornady will be the least expensive route. It shot fine in my 470 K-Gun.
This is list of 470 Nitro ammo from Able Ammo.

dpcdI simply could not shoot any of these big calibers without reloading; they are so expensive and reloading is a whole nother hobby unto itself. You can set yourself up for about the price of a box of 470s. That is, if you really intend to shoot it more than a few rounds a year. I can't fathom not....

Todd WilliamsReloading is the way to go with big bore doubles. You'll learn the rifle and will be able to shoot it on a regular basis. Bullet selection for doubles is limited in factory ammo.
Welcome to the DRSS . Have you picked out your next double yet? You do know it's a sickness, right? No known cure! Just temporary fixes each time you get a new one!
Cheers!

Do you have a 3 day inspection/return privilege? If so, you might consider same.

While I won't speak for Don, I was going to offer my condolences as well.
Buying a
"first" double is like getting on skis for the first time, believing you are on a green circle trail and learning you are on a double black diamond - after you've already started downhill.

In all seriousness, enjoy the hell out of it and I don't think anyone will tell you there is particular ammo from which to stay away in a strong, modern double. I too would suggest handloading. All reloaders
know shooting reloads is
NOT less expensive than shooting factory ammo - because you shoot that much more.
Good luck and have fun.
