sambarman338Forgive me for my ignorance but I thought chopper-lump barrels were supposed to be forged with the rough half-lumps already on them. I would like to know what is superior in the method shown there over a monobloc.

Aaron LittleIf you watch near the 40sec mark you will see that the lump halves are integral to the barrel.
As to the benefits of chopperlump and shoelump construction you have the aesthetic pros of not having a seam. The other benefits to chopperlump and shoelump is you can maintain adequate wall thickness while getting the barrels closer together at the breach over monoblock construction. The difference is small, but nonetheless if you do your part you can achieve a slightly smaller action that is slightly lighter. Structurally/strength wise if done correctly they are all adequate.

Aaron LittleRegulation is always done after the barrels are constructed and ribs laid. Likewise the gun also has to be past the stocking phase. Regulation comes just before final polishing and finishing.

Bob NisbetAppears to be a complete build cycle.
I worked in a shop with tool and die makers, and was always amazed at their expertise. Most masters could make any part with a blank and a set of files. In fact, at the shop where I worked, a person had to prove himself with files before being allowed to progress to using machines.
