I'm wondering how many others have a VC Double rifle or have handled/shot one and what your thoughts are about the Verney-Carron Double rifle and others?

Glad to see that you are thinking about a double again! A man has got to have at least one double.

If you are interested in a VC, talk to Ken at Kebco, LLC. Great guy and he will treat you right. Time to trade off that .505 and get a "proper" .500 NE.

Tim, I bought Don's 577 VC after he received his custom "bespoke" replacement. Great rifles, especially with the triple lock-up. I did LOTS of shopping/talking/reading before I decided on this one. Hard to beat the quality and design for the money.

PS: JOHN 3:18...that's the serial number on my Waffenfabrik Hein 450 Dakota!!!

Here's mine, an Azur Luxe in .470NE. It has upgraded wood, moustache bolster, extended top and bottom tangs, steel grip cap with compartment, and rose and scroll engraving. I love this rifle, beautiful, accurate, and easy to shoot. It has 24" bbls and weighs 9 lbs 13 oz. Ken at Kebco is an absolute pleasure to deal with. I think these are a GREAT value for the money.

Dave, I wasn't going to say anything to you until I had a better idea if things would work out but Terri is sold on the O/U 450/400 for her and I was thinking 450 real hard.

Thanks guys for all your help and I did visit with ???Ken??? from Kebco the other day and he has a used 450 so we will see if we can get together. He also suggested the "made to order" which I'd be most interested in for my wife so the gun fit her to a tee.

havent shot mine much but take a look at the photos about my 600 NE. Love everything about it.

Interesting you mention this I was just discussing this with a friend who has owned and used a few 600's over the years and he is favorably impressed with the VC's and had a soft spot for the 600 at the Dallas SCI show he said.

Do you like the short barrels? I have had 23 1/2" and 25 1/2" both and prefer the longer but of course all the rifles balanced between the hands. I guess I've always shot longer barrels and like the slightly longer pointing/aiming plane. Always wondered what the 28" barrels that used to be so popular were like--to long for a double rifle I'd think compared to a 28" shotgun.

I like the shorter barrels, these are actually a touch less than 24" but since they measure length in metric I just call 'em 24" , the rifle is balanced very nicely and comes up like a well fitted shotgun, fits me like a glove. I think that a double with shorter barrels is just much handier and quicker to bring into play when hunting and easier to carry around. Also, it regulates with 107.0gr IMR-4831 and a 500gr Woodleigh @2,150 fps so I'm not getting reduced velocities with the short barrels. Tons of power in a beautiful and compact package!

That stupid hair, there's normally a bear rug laying where that pic was taken, but it could be a cat hair, bugs me every time I look at the pic but I'm too lazy to re-take it.

I would be interested in Sam's views on his VCs. I remember he had some trigger issues with his 577 and refused to hunt with it until that was resolved.

I can't think of a better rifle on a boxlock action.

Azur Eloge. One pair of 9.3x74R and one pair of 7x65R. I had it built as my concept of the ultimate DR for the west coast of North America. I figured 7x65r and 9.3x74R would do it all. The scope goes on the 7mm. The 9.3mm has the flip up "moon" sight. In keeping with the concept, the engraving is a selection of west coast animals. There is a Roosevelt elk, a mountain goat, and, underneath, a Columbia Blacktail deer. I still need to get it out on a hunt.

Ken owns a Brittany Spanial named Jack. For years Ken has received calls on guns asking "is that a crack I see...", to which Ken would reply "no, it's just a dog hair".

I got it now, I wondered what the hell you were talking about but there is that little hair or piece of fuzz on the forearm in the second pic. Ken is a great guy, haven't met him in person, but spent a fair amount of time on the phone with him and always enjoy chatting with him. I will also add that I had a very minor issue with this rifle when I first bought it and Ken and the guys at Verney-Carron bent over backwards to resolve it. Kebco and VC all really stand behind their guns. I like this rifle so much I plan to be buried with it.

Heck, when i spoke with him for the first time yesterday he was talking about "the boss" (the dog) who is his buddy and rules the house when THE BOSS (his wife) is not home or until she gets home. LOL. But it was VERY OBVIOUS he is fond of both and not in the order listed!

I think he was considering making a rug out of the spaniel hair, however.

Yes I like my VC doubles and for the money are hard to beat. Yes I had issues with the triggers on my 577 and not sure what VC is doing about the problem. I fixed mine but still don't like the way that part of the gun is made. Not sure I would trust it or not on dangerous game. The gun has no positive off on the safety and uses a little tiny spring to disengage the safety inside the gun.

Biebs, again not a problem on an S2 which has the best triggers of any double on the market PERIOD and you already know about the "safety". That old style VC safety on your .577 is just plum dangerous. When you get ready to trade it off, let me know and I will take it off your hands and I will even give you a few dollars for it!
