Slinging a Chapuis UGEX
I cannot get the screw out of the barrel rib on my Chapuis. I put a great bit of torque with no results. Any suggestions?

Try heating the screw and area around it with a hair dryer.

On my Chapuis I had to heat the screw and also had to give the screwdriver a few good taps with a hammer.

How much heating is too much? Can a hairdryer harm the solder?

Probably not unless you have the "Michael Jackson model" that gets hot enough to set your hair on fair and melt flesh! Roll Eyes

Use an electric soldering gun. Hold it on the head of the screw...

Gentlemen I believe you have this backwards! Heating steel causes it to swell while freezing it causes it to shrink!

A peace of dry ice touching nothing but the head of the screw will shrink the screw enough that it can be turned out by only hand pressure on the turn-screw.

My question to you is why on earth would you want to remove the sling eye anyway?

Heavy recoiling hand guns have a bad habit of the screws backing out when hunmting is very cold weather. The fix is the tighten the screws as tight as you can, then wrap the handgun in a plastic bag then place it in a freezer for about 30 minutes then remove the gun and ever screw will turn anothe one half to a full turn and when the gun comes back to room temp the screws are so tight you havbe to freeze the gun again to remove them.

If it's gummed up with dried lube, internal rust or loc-tite, heat is the answer... Many times useing the soldering gun and then letting it cool down will break a stubborn screw loose too.

Mac, I am not removing the sling stud. I want to remove the cosmetic screw that is already there so I can install a sling stud and sling this rifle. I got tired of carrying it around last weekend on a hog hunt without a sling.
