He told me that it took him 50-hours to engrave just the buffalo portion on the sidelock.

Thank you for sharing. It is a rare and pleasant suprise to see engarved animals that actually look like the animal, rather than a characture. Based on the engraving that I have seen, the cats are especially difficult to get right.

That ranks with the best dangerous game animal engraving that I have seen, although the Scholz is a bit over the top for my tastes.

new_guy, do they ever have inventory clearance sales at Heym? You know, "everything's gotta go" or maybe "day old" sales? Having you as a member on AR will be a great way for us to get a heads up on factory seconds if one of the engravers does something less than perfect. I got several Fruit of the Loom t-shirts at half price that way.

Unfortunately Wink, I think when an engraver makes a mistake he hides it with more engraving. Wink

It gets better. The lion looks like a lion.

Very, very good indeed Chris.

I'm normally not a fan of animal engravings on rifles, but that lion is almost enough to make me change my mind.

That's really exceptional work.

This Lion is an master peace!!!

Then you look at the engraving, you will see an MR.
I think this means MICHAEL RICHTER.
One of the six master-engraver from Heym.

Michael was at the Heym factory tour following the 2012 Heym Jumbo Challenge and had his engraving portfolio with him. It was quite extensive and he was motivated to go through it page by page and point out the finer details of each piece. He is a very nice man and extremely talented.

We also had an opportunity to look at and handle one of Michael's current projects (600 NE) and it was truly amazing. As beautiful as the pictures are his work is even more impressive in the hand.

Thanks for posting those. I love engraving, although I'll never own any really nice work. It amazes me that someone can scratch and chisel steel and make such realistic art. I can barely draw cartoon figures with a pencil and a lot of erasers.
