My target sold the deal for me too, although mine is a "pipsqeak" 450NE

Be warned, however, there are some around here that believe you should have spent substantially more for a DR that looks worse and performs less accurately.

I DON'T have a problem with Sabatti's for what they are, as long as people acknowledge them for what they are - they are streaks ahead of some cheap DR's, I DO have a problem with what you experienced and a regulation target from a gun where the trigger didn't work.

Never have been much on what other people think.
If you look at the regulation target on the website you will see I could have paid allot more for less accuracy.
Lazer engraving does not kill Buff, but two big bullets an inch apart will.
I paid a bunch more for my K gun and it shoots just as good.

9 lbs 3 ozs, wow. I might suggest that you add a little weight through a recoil reducer and get a better recoil pad. At 9 lbs 3 ozs that baby is going to smack on both ends.

All of my DR's shoot well but one of my most accurate is a
cheap 2nd hand Zoli SxS in 9.3 x 74R.

Does anyone know the diameter of the stock bolt hole.
I think I will add a 5" (14 oz) reducer in the stock, and a decelerator.

That is a really nice looking target,you've done well,that gun looks like a great shooter,damn but now you got me thinking of a 450 ha ha!

I wouldn't worry about a recoil reducer. Just get a piece of lead or steel bar of the right weight that will fit in the diameter of the hole. It's the weight that counts, not some mystical shifting of mass.

Graeme, I can fill you in more in tomorrow but I would never put in a recoil reducer. I agree with Beibs that the smart move is do what the English gunsmiths did for years and that is a lead bar on a spring in the drawbolt hole. This adds the right weigh in the right place. You can place it further towards the receiver this way as well. My Heym when I got it had two recoil reducers in it by JJ and it just sucked for balance. If I had a choice in a gun with proper balance and one that bit a little I prefer the balance. I can draw for you tomorrow what Mike Merker did for my Heym and it was great. If you get a chance read the DRSS Michigan PM. There is some info there.

Then I would see about taking some wood out of the butt stock, maybe drop the recoil pad and replace it with a horn or plastic butt pad, and seeing if you can get the rifle down to 8 - 8.5 pounds.

I was up in Georgia yesterday with JudgeG with my double. I asked him to chime in with his views on the rifle. He said my trigges were perfect and he would'nt mess with them. Anyhow, I hope he chimes in with another view. jorge

I had a good time with Jorge yesterday. We tried to find a hog for him to kill with his new double, but only had a big boar coon visit for the afternoon.

I thought Jorge's Sabbatti was quite nice, particularly for the price. I'd have liked the pull to be about 1/2" less with a good recoil pad, the front sight a white globe and just a plain nickle finish (instead of the computer ingraving), but all in all, it seemed like a darn good gun for the money.

I may even find one in my house shortly, particularly if the .45/70's in the higher grades are nice.

Boy, I went to 3 gun stores and 2 gun shows this weekend looking for Ammo, Nada !
I really want to shoot this thing and waiting for ammo to show up in the mail is killing me.

We did shoot the hell out of "Bill73's" Heym and "BigBears" Army & Navy this weekend and my K-gun.
Shoulder is a little tender this morning, load development from a bench and sighting in will do that.

470 - 12 rounds
450 - 20 + lost count
450-400 - none by me

Balance is a must don't want the rifle climbing upwards on recoil. You want straight back, buf don't drop on you from above.

Hello All,

Well the Sabatti now weighs exactly 11 lbs.
It balances just at the rear edge of the pivot pin, and carries level with you cradeling the action in your hand.
It wears a 0.6" brown decelerator pad.
I also have a black 0.8" but the pull is long already, if I put an 0.8" or 1" I will shorten the wood 1/4" to 1/2".
Lucky I have long arms.

As soon as the weather here gets over 20 Hi and makes it to freezing I will put a few through her.

Well even at 11 lbs she barks.
I put 10 rounds through her this evening, got a pretty good knot on my finger from the trigger guard.
Well i was not able to duplicate the factory target, but I was shooting freehand. It was not bad. Just not as tight as the factory target.
I was shooting DGX and not DGS bullets that may have a slight effect.
Distances were 29 Yds and 67 yds.

You will, try off sticks or a standing bench. Did they tell you what it was regulated with?
Can you imagine the recoil at 9 lbs 3 oz.

9.3 would be stout no doubt !
It was regulated with Hornady DGS not the DGX.
I was shooting with my forearm supported by a branch at 29 yds and a fork shaped stick while sitting in the snow at 67 yds, not the best platforms.
I will shoot at 50 yds from a bench next, recoil does not bother me when doing load work.
