Is the Dumb Question department open to?
Can someone please tell me, what specifically is wrong with a Blaser S2?
Why are they so unpopular? Thanks, Brian

They are very good and accurate double rifles, however the DR snobs and aficionados of fine hand made ones, frown on them for a couple of reasons; they are not regulated in the usual manner, (which adds many thousands of $ to the price); they have adjustable barrels, and the cocking mechanism requires cocking for each two shots. They are more of an assembled rifle, rather than a "hand made" one. Not saying there isn't still a lot of hand work; especially on the fancy ones.
No real reason to avoid them; just realize what you have.
Much like an over and under (which are just two single shot barrels); not in any way the same as a traditional side by side, with all their idiosyncrasies. But they work too.
Disclaimer; I have never owned a Blaser, but I have seen them. Look at the barrels and they tend to be, fat, due to the barrels inside the shroud, that is the adjusting design.

dpcd, That is exactly what I thought! They are just different, not traditional, enough to not sell well.

Thanks very much! I am going to look for one in 500 NE. Brian

I handled one once, opened it, saw that hood, or whatever it is over the chambers, closed it and moved on. No thanks,

BaxterB, Thanks, I hear you. But, it's good enough for the girls I go with. Brian

I meant to say look at the massive locking lug; needed because the frame is aluminum so they designed a unique locking block mechanism; visible when you open them up.

If you have to ask, no amount of explaining will suffice.

Agreed! Those things look like a thing made from borrowed parts from about four different guns left where somebody picked them up in a junk yard. I can take UGLY but I don't want a double rifle that must be re-cocked manually if for any reason it is opened to reload, or just opened to check the chambers. It is like a auto safety, but is harder to re-cock with that big cocking slide. If the first two shots don't get the job done the rifle must be re-cocked manually before you can get off the next two shots. with an elephant that didn't go down, or turn, with first two and closing fast on the shooter. Having to reload the chambers, and re-cock as well might do more than just taking time, but getting trampled as well.

There's one item in a long list of NOs.

The auto safety on a DR is another.

Ugly is another.

That stupid hood.

The way the two barrels are joined, or rather, are NOT joined.

The beavertail forearm.

And so on and so on.

Not to mention ... Blazer! Another example of solving a problem that didn't exist.

On the positive side, it is impossible to shoot one off face. The tilting block is as strong or stronger than a bolt action.
