Re-stock A. Hollows Double Rifle
My A. Hollis 500/450 Nitro just came back from Griffin & Howe and they did a fantastic job on the re-stocking.

I would like to post them so you could see the excellent work Griffin & Howe did. They matched the stock to the forearm so perfectly it is almost impossible to tell it was stocked. I don't know how to post pictures here???

Not that bad, I expected more!! It would have been double that to send it to a good UK Gunmaker!! You have a great name maker, keep your documentation. it will probably add value overall!!
Probably would have been same or more for The Stock Doctor, Dennis Smith do it, recently the Westley Richards lettered stockmaker... and who knows how long!!

Agreed, that doesn't seem as high as expected. I don't know how to post pics either, but hope someone can help.

It took a little over 2 years to do the job. This year was their 100 Anniversary and they built several of their own guns during this time period for that event. The Hollis is a jones underlever hammer gun which made the lock work and fitting pretty difficult.

I think Cal would be proud because he loved the old hammer guns and used them. This old rifle is a wonderful find in the nitro express realm which held on for years with the old ivory hunters after the top lever action became popular.

Took the Hollis to the range today and it shot great. It kept Kynoch factory loads inside 1 1/4 inches in total spread at 50 yards. I had never shot a nitro hammer gun and was amazed how light an crisp the triggers were. I was a little skeptical of a hammer gun but the Hollis made a believer out of me. They knew what they were doing when they built these old guns.

I had an original A Hollis catalog reprinted by Cornell https://cornellpubs.com/product/5797/
Wealth of info on A Hollis and shows Jones underlever double available. Beautiful restock job. Bob

BANG ON!!
Good Shooting... you are right!! Those old hammer guns are awesome hunting guns if you practice loading, cocking as needed, not both, you will never have a doubling incident!!

There were a couple of older guys there that had never saw a double rifle other than on television. They were amazed to get to see and Handle one in real life.

bobc,
Thanks for the information on the Hollis catalog. I ordered one today. I also want to thank everyone for all their kind remarks on this rifle.

This old rifle cracked me hard on the face off the bench, but from the way it grouped it will be great in the field. It is a little slow to reload but the old hunters managed to make it work.
