Hog gun
Looking for a double to use as a "Hog Gun". 45-70, 3-06, etc. If anyone has info on sales in those calibers, would appreciate it. Thanks

Do not rule out the 9,3x74R, it is a great calibre.

Wanna get in cheap?
Buy a Remington SPR 30-06 SxS for about $700-800.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Hey,
For No2 and SnowWolf
I have no first hand experience with the 9.3x74, although I read a bunch of good things about it. Seems like a hot .338. Is that correct?
I have not seen the SPR on the Remington website [was looking again for DRs yesterday]. Can you give me a link or contact to look at that weapon?
Lots of good things dont cost much

Hey, sorry
Just Googled that and its that Bakiel [sp] thing. Ive contacted them several times through their North American import hub [Canadian company] in the last year and not heard an intelligent answer from them. It looks good on the computer but there is something very wrong there.....

Do a search on here. More than a couple of guys own them and enjoy shooting them, myself included.
You can find them for sale on Gunbrokers.
Nothing wrong here. The rifles can be absolute tack drivers if you can live with there shortcomings. They can be a fantastic double for the price.

I'll try that link. Just frustrated by the .... "odd" conversations Ive had with the Canadian company. Thanks man

My merkel 8x57JRS is a hog killing machine.

Boar hunting of course is big in Europe and when the Germans started to build double rifles for drivern boar I think they did two things. The first was to put a rim on the 8x57 case and the other was to invent the 9.3x74R. I Hunted driven boar in France once. 17 hunters and all but one had double rifles most were 9.3x74R.

Your 8x57 O/U Merkel is one sweet little rifle.

It is one reason why I got my Heym 26B O/U in 30/30.

It is my Primary hunting rifle this deer season.

I have killed a turkey and a coyote with it so far. Deer and pigs should be afraid.... very afraid...

Thanks for the picture...

I remember it well.

I really like the round knob stock and the slim fore end.

It is one of the best handling O/U's I have ever touched.

Great photo and you should have mentioned to SESOLINC that your Pedersoli is a great value in a double rifle and they come in 8x57 , 9.3x74,and 45-70. Three perfect cals for hogs.

Rounded grip ends arn't that common with double rifles and here we have pics of three in a row without planning it.

All true, but I fear the days of finding them in good condition on Gunbroker or Auction Arms for $1500 are behind us.
