Does anyone of you own, shoot and hunt with one of these? I didn't know they made one. All I'd ever seen was the muzzle loading double.

GrenadierThey also make them in 8x57. I've never shot one though.

Clan_CollaHave owned 3. One converted to 45-120, one in original 45-70 and 1 in 8x57. All were acceptably accurate , less than 3" groups @ 50. The converted gun and the 8m would do nearly that @ 100.

Charles_HelmAlso in 9.3x74R. Used mine on one pig, worked just fine but the range was close.

Mike BrooksI had a 9.3X74R and it was a very accurate one. But they are barrel heavy.
I now have a 45-70 WITH a 12 ga set of barrels. They may have made only one of these.

mlazarusI have one in 45-70. Cool rifle. The trigger on mine is rough but it is a hoot to shoot and I took a nice black bear with it.

MacD37I have the No 143 off the line when they were ordered to be made for Trail Guns Armory south od Houston Texas. It was very well regulated with the 45-70 with a 400 gr bullet. Mine was later re-chambered for "458 RCBS" a wildcat designed by Fred Huntington of RCBS.
The rifle is strong and is worth the price but is as heavy as a rhino. Mine is going to be re-barreled for 450-400 NE 3 inch soon, lightening it up some with thinner barrels! Several others have been re-chambered to 450NE with no problem.
Hope any of this helps!

It all helps and I thank you all for the information. I kind of have my eye on one but I wanted to know more from others personal experience before I jumped in. Sounds like it will do everything I expect of it.

foxhoundEnjoy!! My first double rifle was a browned version in 8x57. It was a very nicely finished and shooting gun. A bit on heavy side though. Heavy or not, I wish I still had it.

drhall762Finally got out to shoot my DR. Fired a few rounds to get the feel of it. Triggers are a little on the heavy side but break clean. No over-travel.
Set my rest at 70 yards, posted 2 new targets and fired 2 rounds from each barrel. The ammo I had was Remington factory. 405 grain IIRC. Box is in the safe now. I used the rear fixed swallowtail sight and the front sight is a gold bead. Bead actually covers the entire target at 70 yards. I held center on both targets.
Top target is the right barrel, bottom target is the left. The low shot was called but I didn't really think it was quite that low. Out of practice I guess.
