BB416Quick release scope mount for a Merkel 140AE
G'day gents ,I am looking for advice on what options I have for mounting a scope on my Merkel 140 AE. What is available in a quick release mount? Swing away? Are there after market mounts available or am I limited to factory only?
Thanks fellas , I am looking forward to your replies

Send your rifle to JJ with the scope you want to mount and have him do the work properly. It will be a little more expensive but the end result will make your rifle worth far more in the long run.
A botched installation will destroy the value of your rifle beyond repair!

mdstewartI personally would call Steyr/Merkel in Bessemer, AL and make arrangements with Herbert, the Merkel gunsmith to have the quick release mounts rings designed for that rifle installed. You'll be very happy with that system.

Andre MertensSühler claw mounts are top. EAW still makes them but they are to be handfitted by an experienced craftsman.

TransvaalGentlemen;
All of your suggestions are spot on, however the originator of this post lives in Australia and you are giving him USA references.

LR3I discovered I could not shoot well in poor light with iron sights so I sent my one double to JJ to see if a red dot will work for me. What you can do is get a Aimpoint Micro H-2 and mount it on the rib with a 11mm claw clamp mount from Aimpoint. Will require dove tails in be cut in the rib. If it works I ll add it to other rifles. I ve seen others have used this in a previous post.

BB416Thanks for the great suggestions but as Transvaal correctly stated it may be a little difficult as I am in Australia

ozhunterBlomfield of gold coast gunsmiths should be able to fit some Recnagel swing mounts.

BB416Thanks Ozhunter, I have had Rob do work for me before, never even gave him a thought . I will have to look into it

Andre MertensI would not be surprised if Recknagel offered claw mounts too (a check on their website should confirm). Quality of both Recknagel and EAW (Ernst Appel Werke) is beyond reproach.
