Target Practice with Holland 8.
Target Practice with Holland 8.
Was out at the range yesterday with my Heym 88B in 450/400 and my Holland 8. I'm still getting my feet wet with the Holland 8....but I was pretty pleased with the results. Couple of photos follow. The small hole below the bullseye is the 450/400. Cheers. Chip.
Thats good shooting, what are the loads in the 8?

Hi, Bill73. Not using black powder yet. Starting load was 70 grains of Blue Dot behind either 925 grain spherical ball or a 1050 grain conical ball.I am using Federal #209A Shotshell primers. I have not run this stuff through a chronograph yet, but I'm pretty sure these projectiles are moving along at a pretty leisurely speed. Cheers. Chip.

cal pappasGroups should come together as you increase velocity. I shoot 85 grains and also 100 grains of BD with a 1000-grain ball in my Locke (diameter .875") and 70 and 80 grains with a 1620 grain conical.
Congratulations on a beautiful rifle.
Cal

Omnivorous_BobGreat minds think alike! I also use 85 grains of BD with 1000 grain balls in my .875" Bland (marked 10 drams and conical ball for Ely's drawn case) and 70 grains for 1340 grain and 1650 grain conicals.
Chip, let's see some more pictures of that beauty. From the picture can I guess 24" and rebounding hammers? Any details are much appreciated. Thanks for posting.

Hello, Bob. You are correct....24" barrels and rebounding hammers. Weight of 17 pounds 4 ounces. Holland serial number 8862 was built in 1884 for an Indian Nawab, but the records do not specify which Nawab. This 8 is a little bit smaller than your Bland or Cal's Locke. My projectiles measure 0.850" in diameter. A few photos follow. Cheers. Chip.

cal pappasHotter than the finest centerfold. Amazing rifle.
My Locke shoots 1000 grain balls with 85 grains of BD and also 100 grains. For my 1620 grains conical I shoot 70 and 80 grains. I have a 1300 grain Paradox mould but accuracy is horrible.

This is a wimp of a load!
450 grain powder load is more like it, and 2800 grain bullet!
