How Dry Is It In Texas ?

A buddy out of Longview said he'd killed a mosquito that was carrying a canteen.

A man in Dime Box said the chicken farmers were giving the chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs.

In Lake Palestine ,they caught a 20 lb catfish that had ticks on it!

But just this week, in Bryan , a fire hydrant was seen bribing a dog.

It's so dry in Texas that the Baptists are starting to baptize by sprinkling, the Methodists are using wet-wipes,
the Presbyterians are giving out rain-checks, and the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water.

Now THAT's Dry!

So far we have had 25 days of 100 degree+. Starting in May, and it aint over yet.

The rest of the time, it has been a bit cooler, 95-99.

I see Winter is finally ending and Spring is coming up here (in the Salt River Valley), Bill.

Last week or three we've had several nights each week where it was over 100 at midnight...and a few of those nights it was RAINING! (Monsoon season, as you well know.)

It is hot,no doubt + not a sign of rain in the foreseeable future.Just a "stupid" question here. When we have too much rain in part of our nation + not enough in another why not build locks to fill the Colorado from the Mississippi.If we can spend so much overseas + do stupid sxxt here at home with our tax dollars,why not that?

Yeh, and if they had some small dedicated "overshot" hydro plants intalled at the source(s), the flowing water might even pay 50% or more of its own costs of pumping it to where needed...or at least to where not harmful...like west Kansas or western Okla.

By using overshot wheels, there wouldn't be any power generated or water pumped/moved unless source levels were high enough to allow the water to flow over the wheel(s). Sure should be less expensive than allowing all the current flood damage, and might generate a bunch more viable farms/pastures on land now producing little or nothing except tumbleweeds.

It might be a useful idea, but the Envronmental hurdles would be mind blowing.The screaming greenies would be out in force.

Yeh, thanks to the Greenie terrorists and their kamikaze lawsuits and squirrel-brained judges, we would have a hell of a time building the interstate highway system today...or Boulder, Bonneville, and the other dams which are now an integral part of our lives.

Because we can't legally do anything to alter the flow of the Colorado River. The old water agreements from early in the 1900's force us to send the water downstream without impeding the flow, altering the flow or building anything to affect the flow.

Since California is the end beneficiary of that agreement, any attempt to change or modify that agreement in the last 50 years has been defeated in Congress. They have more people in Congress representing them than all the Rocky Mountain states combined. And they have blocked it every time.

Yeh, but we don't have to shovel the heat...just take a dip in the pool every couple or 3 hours if we want. (Personally, I prefer dipping in the Steno pool....)

And, in the WINTER, unlike in Alaska, our highs are in the 75 range or so and the overnight lows about 40-50.

Been there, done that. Would trade for central Oregon, but othewise will probably just stay here and wait for it to warm up.

After my brother finished his second tour in Afghanistan he told me he couldn't wait to get back to Texas. He said the temperatures were over 120 and he was wearing body armor while carrying up to 80 pounds of gear. I am proud of his service and he gave me first hand accounts of operation Anaconda. God bless our troops and bring them home safely.

To get the water to the Colorado it would have to cross the Red, Trinity and Brazos Rivers.

Why not fill all 3.
