gerrys375How to be a gunfighter
Back in the days of the Old West, a young man has practiced a great deal in drawing and shooting. He wants to be a gunfighter. Finally, he feels he is ready.
He strolls into a local saloon on a quiet afternoon. A man in shirtsleeves is playing a quiet tune on the piano in the corner. The young man also spots a famous marshal and gunfighter, Bat Masterson. He walks over and introduces himself -and tells Bat Masterson that he wants to be a gunfighter.
Bat Masterson tells him: " Step back and let me get a look at you". The young man does so and strikes a pose of someone about to draw.
Bat Masterson says: " You look pretty good. You're wearing all black. You have pearl handled revolvers and you're wearing Mexican tooled boots. Yeah, you look like you'll do but I have one important question - Can you shoot?
The young man instantly draws the Colt .45 and shoots the cuff link off the piano player's right sleeve.
Bat Masterson says: That's pretty good but, you know, a gunfighter has to be consistent in his shooting. That might have been a lucky shot".
In answer, again there is the instant draw and the young man shoots the cuff link off the piano player's left sleeve.
Bat Masterson says: " No doubt about it. You have all the makings of a gunfighter. Now there's just one more thing you have to do. Go in the kitchen and get a can of lard from the cook. Then dip those two revolvers of yours deep into the lard."
The young man asks: " How will that make me a gunfighter?"
Bat Masterson replies: " It won't but things will be a lot easier after Wyatt Earp who's playing the piano comes over and takes those two .45s of yours and....."
