The best way to wash dishes
A young man goes to visit his aged grandfather in a rural part of the state.

He arrives late in the evening and, of course, is greeted by his grandfather. They have a great visit that evening.

Next morning, the young man is served bacon and eggs and hash browns - all as requested. The young man digs in - but begins to notice (he's fussy and from Texas) that the breakfast plate has traces on it around the edges of egg yolk from a previous meal.

He says to his grandfather that the plate doesn't look very clean.

His grandfather says: That plate is as clean as cold water can get it!"

The grandson realizes that his grandfather has no hot water so he shuts up.

At lunch, his grandfather serves his grandson some hamburgers on a plate. Again the son notices that there are specks of meat on the plate from an earlier meal. He can't help mentioning it. (Like I said, he's from Texas and very fussy)

Again, the grandfather says: "That plate is as clean as cold water can get it!"

Later in the day, the grandson wants to go into town on an errand. However the grandfather's dog, a rather mean looking Rottweiler, won't let him out of the house.

Thy grandfather shouts at the dog: "COLD WATER! Let him by!"
