This was excellent News to finally see a Grander Blue Marlin landed (IGFA rules) in Australian waters.

Each Year many Grander Black Marlin are caught and mostly released in the Cairns Great Barrier Reef region, but big blue Marlin have remained elusive until now.

Here is an article with the full details.

As you can see in the comments, Anti's are not restricted hating hunters, anglers are in their sights as well.

What a thrill. I have never caught a grander but would like to one time be able to wire one up on leader. She does however not look like a grander from the pictures. Not saying that it did not happen but the picture does not give an accurate image of what a big marlin looks like.

I thought the same thing, but it seems that they have used other file photos in the ABC article, that came out a week or so after the capture.

Have a look at this article, and the actual photo of the Grander and it clears up the visual size difference.

I was fortunate to fish 10 days of the 2017 Cairns Heavy Tackle season, and whilst we didn't actually capture a 1,000 pound fish we saw other boats capture fish of these dimensions near by and it was a privilege to be able to just see these amazing sea creatures.
