I hadn’t seen this post before, and I just have to put in my 2 cents! My wife and I were in Victoria Falls last August and we stayed at The Ultimate Lodge for several nights, on the advice of a good friend in South Africa. In addition to touring the area, seeing the falls, etc., we fished on the Zambezi for tigerfish and nembwe for two days and had an absolute blast! I have to say that those two days were the best I’ve spent so far in Africa, including four trips in the last five years. I can’t wait to go back and try it again, and neither can my wife!

I’ve read some comments elsewhere on these forums about where to stay in Vic Falls. While we were there we visited the old Victoria Falls Hotel for ‘high tea’ and the Vic Falls Safari Lodge for sundowners, looked around, checked them out and talked to guests staying there. While each is nice in its own way, we both felt that we were one up on them for having stayed at The Ultimate Lodge. We saw and did things that we wouldn’t even have known about if we’d stayed somewhere else. Russ Caldecott is the owner, and he goes out of his way to make every one of his guests feel like a VIP. His staff is the best in town, maybe even in the country. His lodge is a real gem! As a PH himself, Russ knows how to “make a plan” for whatever you want to do. Every hunter and his family should stay there before, during, or after their hunt. Put it this way – you could stay somewhere else and never know what you’re missing, but you WILL be missing a lot!

And you should treat yourself and give the fishing on the river a try. Russ has top-notch gear and guides, far better than anything else you’ll find in the area. I’ve been fortunate to do a lot of fishing in my life, for a lot of different fish in a lot of different places, both with and without guides. Russ offers an experience you won’t ever forget, or regret.
