carrying rods on airliner
leaving for AK next mo for salmon fishing, and wondering the best way to take rods with me.
All 2-pc, but too long for overhead storage.

Thanks

I have used pvc pipe in the past. It worked well just buy a screw on fitting for one end and pad any additional space in the tube.

Have fun on your trip.

Use Enough Gun
I have a number of travel rod cases from various manufacturers for two piece tubed rods, from 6 foot rods to 13 1/2 foot spey rods, that I use to carry my tubed rods in to Alaska and other places. Manufacturers like Fish Pond would be the place to look for them. Get online to the Fly Shop or Fish Pond, etc. and check out the travel rod cases that you can purchase to carry your tubed rods in.

Well, I can take care of a case; what I was asking is how do work things out with the airlines. Check-in baggage?

Depends upon the air lines, they all have different rules. Plan on using check-in.

I know with Mexican airlines we can’t take reels, fishing line or lures on board

Flew up their last August and we all carried rods and tackle on the plane (Alaska Airlines) but all were 3 and 4 piece. I carried all of my gear in a fishpond case designed for 4 piece fly rods.

I’ve never had a problem with baggage handling damage using plain old pvc pipe. They’re tougher than a lot of the fancier ones I’ve seen sold in sporting good stores and a whole bunch cheaper to make.

The airlines have misplaced them however but I eventually got them back. Alaska airlines once even delivered it to our boat at the dock on our yearly trip with friends in Wrangell.
