Tony GableTrigger job on Stevens 200
Hey Guys,
Do any of you intelligent individuals out there know if a trigger job can be done on this rifle.
It is 5 lbs. plus. It feels like trying to drad adead horse with a bicycle.
Thanks,
Tony

I don't know if you can do a trigger job on these or not. My impression is that most people are simply replacing the trigger with one of these:
Sharp Shooter Supplyor
Rifle Basix trigger from Midwayor
Timney trigger from Midway21 August 2007, 22:53
hm1996I understand the Stevens is just a pre-accutrigger Savage. If this is correct, a good smith can do a trigger job that will bring the pull down to 3.5# and break clean. I have two Savage (pre-accutrigger) rifles that have very nice triggers that break crisp around 3.5# after my smith got through with them.

ZERMELYou can relax the long horizontal spring.
The spring tension is adjustable at the front
Loosen the nut until the spring is almost straight. This alone will reduce the pull weight to about 3 lbs. Stoning the sear or rather polish it should get you down to 2 lbs.

Pre-Accutrigger Trigger Adjustment22 August 2007, 07:35
Tony GableHey guys,
This is Tony again. Thanks for all of the great replies. This rifle is going to be a real shooter. Shot a box of shells at 100 yards. The last 4 I put 3 in a nickel size group 1 inch above the bull. 1 of the rounds I jerked the trigger and knew it immediately. We've all done that. Got it home and cleaned the hell out of it. Took the stock off and got to looking and found the trigger adjustment screw. Went to the book(owners manual) and started reading. The Stevens 200 is made so that the customer can adjust the trigger himself. I got it down to just a hair over 3 lbs. Thanks ZERMEL, you were right on. Now I can really make a shooter out of it. If I went any lighter than that the bolt wouldn't cock every time. I'm happy at 3.25 lbs.
Thanks Again,
TONY
