.218 Mashburn
Ok, I need some help. I have a shooting buddy that needs your input for a good load for his .218 Mashburn using a 40gr bullet or less. Im finging out that there just isnt a lot of info on this round.

Hope someone out there can help.

I had one years ago, but sadly it's long gone. I didn't reload for it, just shot factory ammo. Ackley's Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders lists between 16 and 16.3 grs of IMR4227 for a 45 gr bullet, no load listed for 40gr. Hope this helps. http://www.reloadbench.com also has load data for this round. A Google search will provide a whole bunch of links.

Tell him to look at 221 Fireball data to start off with.
Have had great success with the Winchester 46 gr. HP and H4227.

The fireball is a larger case, so I wouldn't use 221 data. You can find 218 bee data, and just tell him to carefully work up from the top loads.

I had one in a 10" contender, and it seemed to prefer the 45 gr sierras. I'll have to dig through my data to see what the best powder was.

Whoops! I didn't mean to say 'work your way up with 221 as a starting point'

What I meant to say was go between 218 Bee and 221 FB. You really can't fit the amount of powder a 221 calls for in a 218 Mash Bee anyways. I would say the FB data is equivalent to a bit over max. for the Mashburn.
