243 and the 115 Barnes??
Seems to me that Barnes made this bullet for a while for the 243 (the 115)-does anyone have any loads for it or any dat out of a manual.

Another fella and I are wondering how fast this bullet can be run out of a 243.

Many thanks for your time

Mark,

I tried using those 115 gr. RNSP from Barnes and in my M99 Deluxe with a rotary magazine and I had to seat the bullets real deep to get them to work in the action. In my Ruger M77(old model with tang safety) the accuracy wasn’t so good. Wouldn’t group under 2” no matter what I did and I also had to seat that 115 gr. bullet fairly deep due to lack of magazine length. It worked fine through my .240 Weatherby but still wouldn't group worth a darn. Over all I wasn’t very happy with them at all. Lawdog

Mark here is the data from Barnes #3 manual for the 115 gr. in a .243.

XMR 3100 37-41 gr

RL19 38.5-42.5 gr

RL22 39-43 gr

H4831 39-43 gr

H1000 41-45 gr

IMR4831 36-40 gr

IMR 7828 39-43 gr

Norma 204 35-39 gr

Let us know if you try this bullet. I am a fan of the .243 myself.

I spoke with a Barnes tech rep on the telephone about this bullet today. He stated that its the only Barnes Original left in stock. And only because they made a truck load. A 1-in-9 twist is called for he said. He also believed the 95 grain X bullet was a better choice, even for elk. I was asking about the 6mm remington rather than the .243 WCF though.

That 95 Grain X bullet does good in my 243.

Barnes #3 fastest load is 2977fps using 43gr RL22 and a 24" barrel. All loads listed as max run between 2805 and 2977.
