Thought you guys might find this interesting.
Shot a Coyote (about 30 lbs) at 70 yds with my 22-250 using a Nosler 60 gr PT. The bullet entered the chest dead center and the bullet exited the rump about 2 inches below the tail. I thought the penetration was pretty impressive.

Good shot. I load 40grain Barns Varminators in my 22-250, and there are never exit holes.

Even in the smaller calibers, the penetration of the Partition is excellent. There may be newer designs with sleeker profiles, catchier names and higher price tags, but the good ol' Partition remains the standard by which all premiums are judged.

By the way, congrats on the coyote...

J D any thing special about your barrel? I have a 22-250 and I am wondering if the 14 twist will stablize 60 gr bullets? Thanks

The rifle is a stock M700 VLS with a 1:14" twist.
Here are my loads-
50 gr BT

55 gr BT

60 gr PT

It won't shoot the 60 gr BT, bullet is just too long for the 1:14" twist.

Surprisingly enough I have done the same with a 60 gr. Hornady HP and SP...I have used this bullet in my 222, 223, and 22-250 with excellent results and usually an exit hole.

Absolutely comparable results here with the 60 grain PT from an Anschütz rifle with the same twist rate. 50 and 55 grain bullets shoot very well, 60 grain no longer stabilizes.

I had presumed though that the higher velocity from the 22/250 might stabilize it.

Yes, the 60 gr BT is too long. My 5 shot group went 4.75" at 100 yds.
