All wearing Leupolds VX-IIIs - Talley Bases and rings trued and lapped. I would say LPS's on the 06 & 375 but can't see the difference.
6.5-06 a 6.5-20X50 30mm EFR -Unbelieveable scope.
30-06 and 375 both would wear 2.5-8 X 36mm.
And just for Fun - a 6mmppc - Nesika LBRP classic action in a laminated Sehane Tracker and 6.5-20X50 30mm EFR Scope in lapped double screw Kelby rings on Davidson Bases to show off with.

I have no intention of setting foot in big Brown or Grizzley territory so my needs are a bit more modest. I guess I'd go with:

.22-250Rem.

If you said I'd have to go to Alaska, then I would substitute a .338Win. Mag. for one of the others and worry about an orthopedic surgeon later. Best wishes.

Having hunted and killed Moose, Caribou, Brown Bear, Elk, and numerous Deer of Whitetail and Mule varieties, I would pick the following from my present battery. ---- .257 Wby with 120 grain Nosler Partition bullet at 3500 fps, for deer, antelope, etc. ---- 7mm STW with 160 grain North Fork bullet at 3100 fps, for Black bear,Caribou (Eastern Canada), Elk, etc. ---- .358 STA with 270 grain North Fork bullet at 2950 to 3000 fps, for Big Bears or anything elso in their neck of the woods. Getting ready for an Alaskan Caribou-Wolfe hunt starting first week in September, as we speak. Good shooting.

Fun thread -

Small: Bushmaster 223 16 inch bbl 1 in 9 twist with scope, Red Dot and Mil peeps. Doubles as defense and competitive target rifle. 35 to 75 gr bullets.

Medium: CZ 550 Lux in 6.5X55 with 4X scope. 85 to 160 grain bullets.

Large: 338 RUM with quick release scope plus iron sights. Covers very long Western shots as well as in close dangerous game. 160 to 300 grain bullets.

In this order,

I'd really like to include the 7x57, but the limit is three.

In the real world, the '06 will do it all.

Sorry, but I spent the day shooting my 416 Rem APR and can't live without it. So, to justify its existence, I'm imagining that I am a Park Ranger on the Kenai and have to deal with bad bears all the time. This is as a result of having loaned it to a good friend for his first year in that actual job. He said it prevented him from shooting several bears because he could get closer and take more bluffing with the 416. He now has his own, handloads and says he has puckered a few times but never stained anything and...more importantly, never had to shoot out of fear.

Everything else over 150 lbs would fall to a 338 Win Mag, with a 243 from there down.

I guess the philosophy here is to "carry enough gun", or something like that, but with handloads the 338 really does cover the middle quite well and still make long shots on Elk.

I'm old fashioned, and perhaps impractical in today's world. Had I to limit this to "non-obsolescent" cartridges, I'd have to go with:

1. .25-06 Rem
2. .300 Win Mag
3. .375 H&H

Many don't mind shooting coastal grizzlies with a .30 caliber, but after taking one with my .308 Norma, I just feel the need for something more. Not that it didn't do the job, but when I first saw the big fellow, I had my doubts.

I immediately built a .358 Norma upon my return from Alaska, and feel more confident for next time.

Can't think of any occasion where one of these wouldn't do.

Three rifles for NA big game:

Woods hunting on the hills here the choice is a 99F in .358 Win scoped with a Lyman 4X All American in Weaver mounts so the irons can be used. This combo is good to at least 250 yds and might be a rifle for the entire continent.

Most other hunting: Ruger #1A 30/06. Leu 2X7.

Big bears: I suppose one of the 375 H&H's.

The thing is that if one is planning a big trip for brown bears you can get a gun for it. I have used the above on local game and take three rifles to camp every year for fun and back up but the 375's stay home now as they are too heavy.
