Do yourself a favor, if you build a 6.5 X 284 DON'T build it on a short action of any kind. Will it work through a short action, yeah sure will, if you seat the bullets deep enough and that goes for the 120 gr. to 129 gr. bullets as well as the 140 to 160 gr bullets. Top performance is only achieved achieved through a long action and seating the bullets long in a custom chamber.

I have both a 260 and a 6.5 X 284. The 260 in my opinion is by far the better chambering. With the 6.5 X 284 I get marginally more (80 fps) performance at the expense of 5 to 8 grains more powder and much shorter barrel life. The 264 is just going to be more of the same. I am in the process of having my 6.5 X 284 torn down. I am done with it. I have anohter Krieger 6.5 barrel waiing to be chambered and it sure wont be a 6.5 X 284. It will be one of the medium capacity cases that Seafire mentioned.

You said your self if you other guns if you need a bigger one. So do yourself a favor and keep the 6.5 bore where it does the best. In medium capacity cases like the 260, 6.5 X 55 or the 6.5 X 57.

Seafire knows of what he talks about with the 6.5 bore.

For the uninitiated, no flame intended, it's a 6.5 Swedish barrel on a turkish 98 mauser. I'm doing it for about $300 but I've got an old stock that I'll use now. capt david
