Also is the 6.5x55 on a short action or long?
MJines posted some groups that he got with his 275 Rigby on that thread, he also killed a hog and a great Texas deer with it.
http://forums.accuratereloadin...043/m/5461062432/p/3I haven't even shot my 275 Rigby yet, I hope to once I get home in April.
I don't know when the 30-06 will be released. Last I heard from Lipsey's they haven't received the 6.5's from Ruger yet.
I would hope that Ruger did these on a long action.
Have to admit I’m not real impressed with that accuracy. Does anyone else have any pictures of groups they have shot with a Ruger African?

JarrodLipseys has these in the 6.5x55 and I also see they have the Mod 77 RSI in 260. Also there is a mod 77 RSI 7x57 locally if its still there.
Would probably prefer an African in 308 or 30-06 too any of them. Decisions decisions

Hi Bill,
I'm the last guy (well, maybe Ray), to ask for 'pitchers'. And I don't suppose they'll look any different than the ones posted when the 275 Rigby came out.
I'm very pleased with my two 275s, but if you want to see a really nice one, look back at mjines picture of his 275. I think he might have bought the best one of the run. Really nice wood for a non/custom rifle.
But hey, maybe someone out there will buy a 'Swede' even better than Mike's. If so, I hope their 'pitcher' posting skills are better than mine.

surefire7cj,
Wahoo!! You got yours. Congratulations!!
They're heeerrrreeee!!
Dang, from what my dealer said, mine should be here by now. Maybe I'll get a call today.
Congrats on being the first that I know of to finally hold one!!
Promise that you'll give us a report when you shoot her...

surefire7CJ, the stamp! the stamp!
You know, 6.5x55. Right there on the barrel...

BaxterBHoly hell man, that’s a great looking rifle!

It will be 6 weeks or so before I will be able to shoot it but, I will give a report.

surefire7Tadahhh! Got it!
It's just like my 275 Rigby, but the wood is rather plain. I'm a little surprised, as my dealer ordered two so I could have first pick. BOTH were pretty plain, so I picked the 'best' of the two. Neither as nice as my 275, and not in the same zip code as mjine's 275.
Price was $1,050.
If I find another one with nice wood, I'll probably buy it, and perhaps sell this one. Or wait until the value goes up. These things seem to go up in price as time goes by. They only made 250 of them.
I bought two of the Ruger No.1s in 35 Whelen when they came out with the 1:12 twist, 24" barrels. I got them for $800 each. Today, I went into Scheels to talk to the gun manager, who is a friend of mine, and to apply for a Scheel's Visa credit card. There on the gun rack was a Ruger No. 1, 35 Whelen 1:12 twist, just like mine, but not as good of wood, for $1,500!
I've seen some Ruger 275 Rigbys on the net asking $1,400. I paid $950 for mine.
I am hoping my wife (and I, not much help) can figure out imgur shortly, and show some pics of these rifles.
Picked up an AHR full custom by Wayne in 9.3x62 today also. Wow, the wood was more beautiful than the photos. Bought it from gerryb, right here on AR. Thanks Gerry!
Oh, and the Scheel's Visa card? I was ready to sign up until I asked the clerk which bank Scheels issues cards from. Answer, First National Bank of Omaha. Damn. I just fired that bank after doing business with them for over 30 years. See my thread-post 'Just Fired My Bank' in the American Big Game Hunting subforum.

cjfosterGlad you got your's. It would be nice if all of these Lipsey's rifles had better wood but, maybe they think people won't pay for it.
I saw the pics of that 9.3, great looking rifle!!

+Templar+What is the diameter of the barrel at the muzzle? Trying to get an idea of what the contour is like.

Uncle GrinchAfter viewing the pictures of this rifle, I’m wondering.... just curious, not being critical.
Is there a reason Ruger uses the dogleg style bolt?

As I remember from Wilson's Ruger book, it was a Lenard Brownell design.

surefire7Hi cj,
Thanks for the info!
I'd like to look at that website, but the link you provided just gives a blank white page.
Anyone else having the same problem? I tried it on two different computers.

31 March 2018, 23:38
cjfosterIt works for me on my laptop but, I get a blank white page on my phone also. Not sure why.

surefire7Great info cj!
I think I need to hire you as my personal firearms consultant.

AtkinsonSurefire,
Im sure if Ruger built a 25-35 on a no. 1, I would probably be the first buyer, and the only buyer!!

Maybe the add I saw was a no. 1 in the Whelan but I thought it was a 77 African..who knows these days what with failing eyesight, hearing, memory loss, physical condition, mental set back, strange things happen, just all you stud muffins sit and watch!! you are not immune!

cjfosterMade it to the range last Friday and shot 2 factory loads, Norma 156 gr and Lapua 155 gr. Both loads shot right at MOA.
I put a VX3i 3.5-10x40 on it and am pleased with the results.

Mike_DettorreCJ,
Just curious why don't you measure center to center?

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.
What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.
17 April 2018, 07:11
cjfosterNo particular reason. I always measure outside to outside and then subtract the bullet diameter.
17 April 2018, 07:13
MJinesFrom a range trip last week. This was six shots with the Norma 156 grain Oryx ammunition.

surefire7Wow! Cj & Mike. You two have latched onto a couple of shooters there! Congrats to you both.
I haven't shot mine yet, but you're both driving me into it I think.
I'd love to find out that mine shot the Norma Oryx 156 gr. as well as your two rifles.
I love these Ruger Africans. Can't wait for the 35 Whelen now! And the others...

20 April 2018, 01:20
cjfosterSurefire,
You might want to try the Norma 156 gr load soon. Bullets.com has them for $24.78 a box. I ordered 4 boxes, I should have enough for a while.
20 April 2018, 04:02
surefire7Cj,
Holy cow. That's a great price!
I'll order a
bunch of that!
Thanks a 'bunch' Cj!!!
20 April 2018, 04:16
MJines. . . just ordered four boxes myself. Thanks for the heads up.

BiebsI used to shoot the 156gr Norma loads in my custom 6.5x55. I love the look of the long, round-nosed bullets, and they do Whitetails very well.
