4064 and 4320 for the .260?
OK, to show you how old, or cheap I am, I do not have a single loading manual new enough to list the .260. Thanks to 260Remguy I have an uncatalogued ADL with a Zeiss 3x9x40 thanks to LDHunter. I need load info for IMR 4320 and IMR4064. I plan to shoot varmints with the 95 Vmax and have just about every other weight bullet except the 160s. So if you could indulge me with 95Vmax, 120, 125 and 129 loads, I would appreciate it.

I know it will shoot heavier bullets, but I have a 6.5x55 and 264 for those.

Thanks in advance!

4064:
95gr bullet
min 38.5 max 42,5

Lyman 48th. that was the only data given for that bullet weight and powder. Nothing for 4064. You might want to try Steve's pages. Understand that Steve's data is not for beginning reloaders.

4064 Yes.. accurate across the board...

4320... not as accurate across the board, so there are a bunch of better choices...

Wish I could help but my .260 likes IMR 7828.

My .260 likes 129gr Hornady SPs and H4831Sc. I would guesstimate that 4064 with lighter (95-100gr) bullets would work ok....guesstimate only, no empirical proof or experience.

FYI, if you go to the Hodgden site they will give you loads for anything built, just select the cartridge you want.

Well I can verify 4064 and 4895 ( IMR) from real world experiences...

Both work just fine right up to 142 grain match bullets and 140 grain Hunting bullets...

I have several folks out hunting right now with 35 grains of 4064 and 35 grains of 4895 and 140 grain Rem Corelokts...

I just got home from being out in the field with a load of 35 grains of 4895 and a 129 grain Hornady for an MV of 2650 fps...

Longest shots are 200 yds or so, so that is all I need...

Scope is also zeroed for 100 grainers at 3350 fps with a charge of 43.5 grains of 4064.. both loads have same point of impact at 100 yds...so I use the 129 grainers for woods ranges, and the 100 grain load for open country...

And I can vouche for their accuracy in two Ruger 77 Mk 2s... and one Rem VLS...

120 gr. nosler ballistic tips over 43 grains of 4320 works fine in my Kimber Montana and my Sako 75 varmint synthetic. Have taken hogs, deer and turkey w/ kimber. Hogs only to date with the Sako. Will be adding to that next weekend after opening of season.

Well GW, I never enjoyed your luck with that powder.. but certainly no one can argue with your results!!!

That is exactly what 4064 and 4895 do for my 260s!!!

But both of us are in the IMR camp it seems...

Wel Frank, the ability to give the same velocity doesn't mean the ability to give the same accuracy...

Usually IMr 4895 and 4064 have the same charge weight to obtain the same velocity...

3031 is a little less powder to achieve the same as the above, and 4320 requiring a little more powder..

but in most cartridges, the difference between all 4 isn't that substantial...

4320 sucks in a 223, until you get to the magical charge of 27.5 grains and then it becomes a one hole shooter..

Thanks Frank. Honestly, I saw that and it is why I asked the question. In the past, Hodgdon has given anemic loads for IMR powder, even after they bought them. For example, they list 37.5 Grains of 4320 as max with a 120 bullet and everyone else is listing 43-44 grains, same with the 95 vmax at 39.5G with 4064 (100 grain bullet) vs 42.5 from Lyman. I assumed it would be about 3 grains lower than everyone else, but I needed the data. I think they will always push their own brand over the IMR just because of the name.

But I do certainly appreciate the efforts. Thanks again.
