Nimrod3086.5-06 AI
Got my 6.5-06 Ackley the other day. I had a M700 rebarreled with a 26" SS 1-8" twist #2 contour.
This is a new cartridge for me so I started with new to me RL23 powder. Formed my cases from Win. 270 brass using the COW method.
First range trip was checking velocity and cleaning the barrel. Shooting Nosler bullets these are the velocities I got
123 gr. HPBT 56 gr. 3140 fps.
130 RDF 57 gr. 3175 fps.
140 AB 57 gr. 3100 fps.
I didn't see any pressure signs with any of the loads. Next range trip I'll start some accuracy testing but the rifle seems like it wants to shoot.

theback40Yes, otherwise known as the "bovine blow-out" method of case forming Ackley brass.
Yes, I'm full of shit, don't pay attention!

lawndartThose are nice velocities. How accurate were the groups?

Nimrod308I haven't got serious with the accuracy testing yet. I did have a 3 shot group that was .75" with 55 gr, 56 gr, & 57 gr. of powder. I hope that's a good sign.

tc98Sounds pretty good for starters! Was that one of the groups with AB's?
Need to run by and see it!

Nimrod308That one group was with the 140 AB. Shot it a little more this week -its a work in progress. I have some more loads in mind to try. Come by and see it.
