DuckbillHdy 120gr Spire HP's in the 257Rob
My VZ24 257Rob seems to really like the Hornday 120gr Spire HP's. I've got another grain before I reach book max on my load, so I can get more speed. The average velocities of the two best loads were 2650 and 2706fps.
Has anyone used this bullet in the BOB? What kind of velocity are you using? This would mainly be a deer load.
Thanks

LeftoverdjHow did you throat that Bob? Book data is way conservative if your rifle is long throated to allow a 3" COL.
Personally, I doubt you need any more velocity.

DuckbillI had a smitty set the barrel. He set the chamber long. I figure I have a lot more room in terms of pressure. I was just concerned that if the accuracy drops off, could this bullet be effective at those speeds. I 've heard great things about this bullet in the 25-06 @ 3000+fps.

vapodogI've used it in my bob and it's a deer slayer IMO!
I had one in a Browning micromedallion and there was nowhere enough room in the magazine to use the long seated 120 grain bullets.
My M-70 OTOH allows for longer seating......as do Mausers I've built.
Since your "Bob" is in a strong bolt action rifle then using H-4350 you should be able to get 2,800 with the 120 grain bullet and some "one diameter" seating.....don't be afraid to compress powder as long as you work up carefully and use primer pocket expansion as one of the guides for stopping.
