That stuff?

I've actually missed a 1gallon jug five times at 50yards with that ammo...

Yet switching back to Norma brass and a 120gr Nosler lets me nibble pieces off the neck of the jug

Try different ammo.

Would a rifle REALLY spray bullets it DIDN'T like into a 3-4" area....left to right and up and down... "

Absolutely. And even worse.

Thanks Jim...And perhaps I was a bit conservative, probably more like 5-6" splatter beer

A while back I bought 200 rounds of Prvi Partizan 55gr fmj because it was cheap and I thought it would be good for shooting tree stumps and such with my AR. It grouped 7-8" at 100yds. I thought "it must be the AR, its a little picky about ammo", so I shot some out of my Savage m10flp (which will shoot under an inch with damn near anything) and about 2.5" groups with it. So, needless to say, my experience, although limited, with P.P. ammo has not been good.

I have a friend I once glassed a Howa barreled action in 7 MM Rem in a Bell & Carson stock.
It shoots Rem 170 Factory loads into an inch or a bit less.

He wanted lighter bullets to reduce recoil so we bought 250 bulk bag of Rem 150 SPCL to try. I tried 4350, 4831 and 4064 in ladder tests and never found anything that would do better than 6-7 MOA; BAD! I gave up. We later tried Nosler 140 BTs and they shoot a little better than the 170 Rems!

I have a .243 that shoots every 100 gr game bullet I've tried into >3" except Hornadys and they consistantly do under an inch.

Meaning, even a pretty good barrel can be picky about bullets when all "logic" says it should not.

Jim,

I appreciate you taking the time to share...these types of experiences are very helpful for me as I learn that certain rifles indeed have a personality all there own!

Thank you beer

Could be the ammo but there is a reason for Remington placing a pressure point on their rifle barrels. You might be going in the wrong direction by free-floating. Just a thought. I know a guy who has had good luck by putting the pressure point back on a barrel. Try it with some business cards folded in the forearm. You don't have anything to loose.

To me, it sounds like the barrel has been shot out. Perhaps some very hot handloads were used by the previous owner. If free floating and changing ammo don't do the trick, I would start looking hard at the barrel.

Aloha Bradda Ro,

Been a longtime my friend sad to hear youre having issues with your 25-06 its one of my Fav's try some re22 it really likes it.

One thing I might add and I only saw one person mention is "Was there any rechambering or neck/throat lengthening involved?"

This could be a culprit as well being that he indexed the barrel to have the barrel stamp in the correct position. Depending on how much out of position it was it may cause a headspace issue when he indexed it. Thats why I believe the other poster questioned if you had the barrel set back as well.

If this doesnt make sense give me a call.

Take care my bradda and Goodluck!

Aloha,

Bradda Dom

Howzit Bradda Dom,

Yes, my 'smith did go in and ream out the chamber and true the action...I don't quite understand all the 'smith "lingo" but doesn't that mean the barrel had to be set back and trued, then reamed to set the correct headspace?

I'm understanding it to be one in the same bewildered,....Correct???

Anybody???

Thanks!

Ro

Yeah Bradda Ro if he said he reamed out the chamber then he probably set the barrel back and reamed out the chamber.

Have you checked the headspace with the once fired brass and resized brass?

How BAD is bad?

What has been your folks expereinces...had any ones like this?

Could it really just be the ammo???
===============================================
I had a similar experience however, with a new rifle. It shot like a flippin blunder bust! I spend hours and hours at the range at the loading bench and just about any where that I could seek answers. Then one day at the range a buddy of mine said "hey I found the problem, It's you numb nuts!" He was right! Being used to a pistol grip and adjustable cheek I was "pulling" my shots. Not saying this is your problem, it just goes to show that goofy spazoids like me add another element! bewildered

yes it could.....especially if the bullets are not made with concentric jackets.....and it happens.

It appears that the rifling twist may be too slow for the bullets. My 6mm won't shoot well with anything over 90 grains because of it's slow twist rate.
