BLR7 (Texas Cactus Shooter)AR-15 match HBar / ? value $
I found a like new AR-15 match HBAR in 20" barrel
today in a pawn shop and was wondering if $950.+tax is a good price. They said it had been
test fired is all and the bore looks new as well
as the rest of the weapon. I have been wanting one
for a while but never found one this clean for this price. They just put it on display right out of the box and wouldn't take less. Any advice
appreciated! BLR7

exsanguinateimho, that's too high unless it is a certified preban. you can get a NEW bushmaster for ~$800 or buy a parts kit and lower receiver for ~$600.

<reload>That is a wholesale price, that rifle would retail for $1200.00 or there about. If like new it would be worth that price and if you take care of it down the road it will become more valuable! Other rifles like that work well and are fine rifles but the resale later won't be as great! Good Luck

Cold BoreBLR-
Go to
www.odcmp.org and look at the Bushmasters. You can buy a brand new, competition ready rifle for less than that. And it will outshoot the Colt!
You're paying a premium for the Colt name, when a lot of other rifles will outshoot it.
If you really gotta have a Colt, it's one thing. If you want a better shooting rifle, that doesn't take "specialized, proprietary" (aka more expensive) parts, look around at Bushmasters, Rock River Arms, DPMS, etc.
If it's at a hock shop how do they know it's only been test fired. Caviet Emptor(sic) derf

Orion 1I bought a Rock River Arms AR-15 National Match NIB for $929, and it will outshoot any Colt, anywhere, anytime.
I would offer $800 tops, and just walk away if they are not interested.

BLR7 (Texas Cactus Shooter)Sounds like good advice for the most part! Could be just sales talk about only being test fired and
I did offer 750. cash and I did walk away but I
will go by there in a week or so and see if they
are still so proud of it. I heard that some pawn
brokers only offer up to $300. for any gun they
buy but this who knows! I've looked at several
web sites and can't see where Colt is any better
or as good as some of the others. Just thought it
might be diamond in the rough. Thanks for all the
help and sounds like you guys know from experience
about the accuracy so I will keep looking! BLR7

knightkrawler00I bought a new in the box Colt 24" HBAR about four years ago, paid $1000.00. I could have bought any one of a number of different names, and probably would be just as happy. If I were to buy another AR, it would most likely be a DPMS. I would also look into Rock River. My rifle will shoot under an inch every time, with the occasional .5 inch group. This is with handloads that are just over max, and after close to 2000 rounds, accuracy has yet to drop off. I love my Colt, as I'm sure that you would love your's if you were to buy it, but you will pay a bit extra for the name.

StrawbossI would avoid it at that price. IMO the Colts are not holding their value as previously. Invest in a DPMS, Rock River, or Bushmaster. I like DPMS for their fit and finish and have had very good accuracy from their barrels. The other option would be to get a DPMS or Rock River upper and lower recievers to build a gun with a Krieger barrel and Jewel two stage trigger. You won't regret it.
