montero22/250AI twist question
gentlemen,
with the 65gr Sierra Gameking (boat tailed) in mind, what would be the optimum twist in a 22/250AI?
would that same twist be enough for the 70gr Speer semi-spitzer bullet?
at 22/250AI velocities, what would be the fastest twist required to stabilize the loong 75gr A-max properly?
thanks in advance,
montero

Paul HI'd go 1-8 and not worry about whether or not the twist is fast enough.

muckOne in nine will do well up through 69 gr. Some people shoot up to 77gr. Depending on load and rifle.

1894mk2Don't forget to take into account that most barrel manafacturers only guarentee twist rates +/- 0.5" (generaly in the small print)

seafire/B17GMontero,
The 70 grain Speer is a Semi Pointed bullet, and it will actually stabilize fine in a standard one in 12 or 1 in 14 twist in a 22.250
I have a standard 22.250 with a one in 8 twist... it will stabilize any bullet regularly available from 80 grains on down.. even when it is sent out the end with a low MV....
If you are going to hunt Roe Deer with it, take a look at the 75 grain and 80 grain A Max bullets from Hornady!
Those or the 70 grain Speer or the 63 grain SMP from Sierra are all good bullets.. the Sierra and the Speer will both stabilize in the standard one in 14 barrels...
