BuliwyfWhat Ackley Improved to pick?
As you know the .243 Winchester is a necked down .308 Winchester. So, I'd guess the 25 Humdinger is the 25 Souper AI equal. Necking up a .243 and creating the 45 degree shoulder. Sounds like a dandy

MohuntWell I have made my decision, it will be a 250 Ackley Improved. Going to try and keep the rifle right at 5 lbs. before scope, should be easy to accomplish. Thanks for the help all.

250 AI

My 25 bore pac-nor 1-10"s love the hornady 100 SP, nosler 110 AB, and sierra 120 GK. Good luck.

NewtireI don't post much here because I just haven't had the time. I have a couple of .257 AI rifles. The one is long throated so as to allow 3.044" seating of bullets and the other isn't reamed out that far. The short throated one doesn't allow you to seat the bullet out far enough to allow you to take advantage of the extra powder you can use with the AI without raising pressures to primer-blowing levels...I know! The .257 AI works great in a long action that is throated but not going to be very useful if you can't seat bullets out. My experience and opinion.

That one reason I am going with the 250AI it is still a fairly short cases for the SA rifle.

What powder does your rifle like?

NewtireI have a load with RCBS 120 cast that is fun to shoot and real accurate.
For the jacketted stuff, I have used 100 gr. Sierra's and 117 grain Hornady Boattails & SST's.
The jacketted loads that I shoot are seated out to 3.044" and 3.028" which is possible in the long action. I was using Winchester +P brass also. I loaded some of these into Remington brass and created too much pressure. So watch your seating depth & case capacity when you get up to top levels.
I used IMR 4350 & RL-19 for the 100 grainers and IMR 4831 & RL-22 for the 117 grain bullets. I also used H-4831.
I started with the Ken Waters Pet Loads supplement data and went from there. I am getting some good velocity and accuracy.
It is a really fun cartridge.

airgun1The best Ackley Improved for your criteria of short action and 22" barrel is the 250-3000 Ackley Improved. To me that choice is obvious. My favorite is the 257 Roberts Ackley Improved, but you will lose it's potential in the short action and then lose even more with the 22" barrel.
