Alan FKimber of Oregon 6x47
I may have located a Kimber of Oregon Model 84 in 6x47 and would like to hear from those here that own one. How do you like them? What type of accuracy do you get? What is the max COL that will fit in the magazine? From what I've been able to dig up it seems they came with a 1/9 twist so I would think they would handle a 85 grain bullet well. Please share your experiences. Thanks.

olarmyI have one and have enjoyed it. When my sons were young, I started them deer hunting with it using 85gr Speer BT's and it worked well on small deer. I use 60gr Sierra HP's for varmints. Don't have the specificds handy by the magazine is too short to seat sharp pointed bullets out to touch the lands. hasn't seem to hurt accuracy too much, however. Fun gun to shoot. Might consider stocking up on 222Mag brass!

taylorce1That is a fast twist for such a little cartridge. Can't say enough about the cartridge though. My 6x47 runs a 12 twist, but that is the one I asked for.
I didn't figure I'd ever run anything heavier than a 80 grain as I run out of magazine. My rifle seems to love the 55 and 70 gain NBT haven't got around to trying the 60 grain Sierra HP yet but got a few hundred on the bench. I'm going to try Midsouth Varmint Nightmares in 55 grain this summer if I can find some new dog towns to shoot.
I've found a nice Sako L461 in 6x47. Still trying to figure out how to afford that one. I think if I build another I'll step down to the 6x45 as .223 brass is much easier to find.

Art S.I actually set back and rechambered a 6x47 L461 to 6x45. One reason was to avoid an "uh-oh" with my daughters shooting it and a 6x45 I owned. The other was magazine length in the 461. You simply couldn't cycle many bullet weights through it. For a lot of loads, it was a single shot.

Alan FThanks for the info guys. I'll update the post if I can get the Kimber in 6x47 purchased. If not I'll probably go Cooper unless I can locate a Sako like you guys mentioned.

<slancey>Alan,
I had a Kimber 84 in 6x47. I also tried loading tipped bullets and had the same problem: bullets seated to reach the lands would not fit the magazine. Accuracy just couldn't be maximized with loads that fit the box, so I sold mine.
It was a beautiful gun, though.

Alan Fslancey,
Thanks for the comments. Am strongly considering a Cooper which will run me about what a used Kimber of Oregon would run. I've owned and hunted with Coopers and don't really mind a single shot but that being said if a rifle is designed with a magazine I expect to use it and still be able to maximize the rifle's potential. Thanks again.

<slancey>Alan,
I'll have to go back to my reloading records. I may have made the notation.

olarmyAlan: Just checked, an 85gr Speer BT loaded to 2.309" cycles thru the magazine. a 60gr Sierra HP, seated to 2.324, shoots great single shot, but is too long for the mag.

Alan FThank you olarmy. Just what I needed.

SR4759I have 2 40X-BR rifles in 6X47
The accuracy is totally dependent on my skills
so they shoot a little better than 1/2"
I have had a good day and shot tiny one hole groups
I do not use any fancy loads just 23 grains of H4918 and a 70 or 75 grain bullet.
the tiniest groups are shot with the old Hornady 70 grn spitzer soft points
my barrels are the old benchrest barrels by Remington and Hart.

Alan FSounds like a pair of fine rifles you have SR4759. I've always heard good things about the 40x actions.
