Sierra has an 80gr "single shot pistol bullet". Why the name and does anyone use it in rifles?
I am looking for an 80gr bullet for small antelope hunting in my 6x45 that is not of varmint-style construction.

They are softer and open up easier at pistol velocities. They will work well in your 6x45.

They are in Sierra's 'Pro-Hunter' line of bullets. #7150 SSP.

They would be PERFECT for use on your intended game in 6X45!

They were designed with thinner jackets to provide expansion at the velocities obtainable from 6mm pistols with 10-14" barrels on game to whitetail deer size.

So (with good bullet placement) they should work well on small antelope.

I shot a Whitetail doe a couple of years ago,125# at about 130 yds dropped like a rock with a heart shot. The 6X45 is not for the person who takes any shot but one who takes a good shot. I was worried about poor expansion, do to the fact that most bullets are made for the .243 and up. I researched and found the 80 gr Sierra single shot pistol bullet, after talked to their hot line I felt is was a match. I get good accuracy about 1 “ but it might be to easily expanded as I think the bullet never made it out of the heart. I'm currently thinking about the 85 gr Partion. I have some loading data that I have made up using the 80 gr Single shot. If you would like it let me know.
