Forbes 20 B
Forbes 20 B
I'm considering a Forbes 20B in 243 for my next Coyote / varmint rifle.
Main reason being that it should be a nice lightweight rifle to pack compared to my 10+ varmint rigs.
So far I have read as much negative as positive but have not talked to anyone with hands-on experience.
My other available choice is a Tikka T3 Superlite Stainless in 243.
Any thoughts on either one will be most appreciated..
Obviously not a very popular rifle...

RichardAustinI have a Tikka T3 in .243. You'll never confuse it with a fine custom rife, but it will shoot with them and the overall construction is very good if not exactly pretty. Easy a 1" gun with 5 shots, but expect sub 1/2" with the loads it likes. I don't know what their twist rate is but it shoots all bullet weights (75g - 105gr.) equally well. IMO it is very hard to beat the value of these guns. I picked mine up at a cost of about $850.00.

jtinidahoTitan Industries, maker of the Forbes is no longer making the 243 due to lack of demand. I ended up ordering a 260 instead (deer) and am waiting for it.

While I'm not a huge fan of ultralights, the 260 seems perfect for a rifle like this. If the magazine is a little over 2.9", like the NULA model 20, you should be able to load any 6.5 bullet available. I would not hesitate to hunt elk with a 140 grain partition with that rifle.
I think early negative reports on these rifles were damaging, but given the ULA/Colt fiasco, I bet Melvin and Titan have worked the bugs out. I wouldn't mind trying out a 20b in a Bob, a 260, or a 6.5 Creedmoor. Wish the barrels were 24" and a little heavier.

I've never heard a cross word about a Tikka.

Big Wonderful WyomingI have had a couple of Tikka T3 rifles. The magazine sucks, if you inlet a fiberglass stock for a AICS magazine it will work awesome!
