I ShooterI need help with a Savage
About every other round hangs up going into chamber. It is a Savage model 11 in 243. Any ideas on how to get it to feed? Thanks much for your time.

Sid-Is the round that hangs up coming from the left or right side? If it always comes from one side then the rail may need some work. The follower may need some work also because it may not be pushing the round up in place correctly.
If it is happening from a detachable magazine try a new one. The only thing I hate about my savages are the cheap stamped steel magazines. I would buy a quality aftermarket magazine if I ever found one.

carpetman1I read the title of the thread--Need help with a Savage and just knew I had the perfect answer. Some Winchester ammo has a picture of a Western looking man riding on a pony--sorta Pony Express look. I figured this ammo would be used if attacked by a Savage. The picture on the box is most important I have learned here on this forum.

hivelosityCheck the follower for smooth movememt in the well. Push down and see if it hangs up on the front or rear and sides.
If you have had to dig out a jammed round you could have damaged the feed ramp or one of the rails.
Make sure the follower spring sets in the bottom of the well it could let the follower come up in an angle. some things to check hope this helps

Check the follower for smooth movememt in the well. Push down and see if it hangs up on the front or rear and sides as it raises.
If you have had to dig out a jammed round you could have damaged the feed ramp or one of the rails. look for nicks and burs on the bottom side of the rails.
Make sure the follower spring sets in the bottom of the well it could let the follower come up in an angle. if it comes up in an angle it will bind. some things to check hope this helps.

I ShooterIt quit raining and I got a chance to get out and shoot it. I put about fifty rounds through it and it seems to feed good. It is clip fed not a box. I think that my dummy rounds were the problem. Out of the fifty rounds I fired I only had three hangs up. I don't know if this is true or not but it seemed like if I fed it to slow I got the hang up. Any way I am very happy with it. I got a 7/8" at one hundred yards. I used the same load that I use in my Encore that I get a 1/2" with. So I don't think that is to bad for a new rifle and a starter load. I was using Reloader 22. I think I will try some other powers and see if I can't get it down to a 1/2" or less. Any one have any good loads for a savage 243 Winchester? Thank you all much for your time. You all have a great day.

vapodogThe cheapest way to fix a Savage is to trade it off for something that works!
