I have a Rem 22-250 that I'm considering re-barreling to 6.5x47 Lapua. Everything I've read about the Lapua is great; very few negative comments. Just wondering if there is a downside to this cartridge. Other than the price of brass, I can't find one.

Occasionally trying to find brass can be a bit difficult. It does run pretty high on the scale of pressures, but the brass still runs forever. I have built 8 rifles in this caliber over the past couple years, and all have shot the same load to between .2 and .3 MOA. Each of them that I have built were originally done for myself, and I have only kept 2 of them for more than a couple weeks. The others were all ones where people asked if they were for sale shortly after they were completed. The cartridge really likes 130 Bergers over load of Reloader 17. VV N550 has done well for me as well.

Yes it's cocked, and it has bullets too!!!

Thanks for the info. I've been trying to decide which dies to buy. Looking through the Sinclair catalog I'm thinking I might go with their arbor press with Wilson dies. The arbor press would be handy as we spend our winters in AZ and space is limited in our fifth wheel. Any ideas? Also have you tried H4350 or Varget powders? I have quite a bit of each of those.

I built a Tikka T3 with a 1 in 8 Krieger in this caliber. Shot great. A lot of people claim that the 6.5's have weird bullet dispersion at 800 yards and farther. I have not found that to be the case with mine. I used it exclusively for F-Class.

I have used ADI 3031 SC (I think that is the right numbers) which equates to a Hogden powder, but I don't remember which one.

I want to say 140 Grain Lapua Scenar, Lapua Brass. Can't remember the load though.

As far as dies go, I am using Wilson's and an arbor press. Works well. I will however be addding in a bushing bump die from Forster as some of the brass I have that was fired in another chamber needs to have the shoulder set back just a bit to chamber easier.

Both Varget and 4350 have been used with good results. 4350 seems to be the more common of the two. Go over to www.6mmbr.com and look at the 6.5x47 information page. There are a number of loads for different powders listed there.

I really appreciate your input. The 6mm BR site had some great into. The twist in the barrel that I'm using is a 1:9 Shilen select match grade that I had on a 6.5x55 SE that shot the 130 gr Berger VLD's fine but wouldn't stabilize a 140 gr Berger. I replaced it with a 1:8.5 Bartlien and the 140's work great. The barrel only has a few hundred Rounds through it and it looks OK. So I figured that I would try it with this Rifle with the 130s. If it shoots them OK, I'll have saved some money on the price of a new barrel. When I shoot it out I'll replace it with a 1:8. Thanks again.

I've been wanting to put together one of these for a while. Just need to decide who to put it together for me. I still need a barrel. So far I have a New Surgeon Action I have had for years. I also have a new AI AXAICS chassis for it as well. About 500 Lapua brass and a good supply of berger 140 hybrids.

Due to the fact that my lathe was put into storage for the net 2-3 years I am sending my current one that I built on a Stiller Spectre out to Mark Gordon at Short Action Customs to spin a new Hawk Hill 8 twist on it.

Would the Creedmore be more practical in that brass and components is available..Balistically pretty close is it not?

I have one one in heavy varmint type rig. 130 Bergers and 36gr of varget shoots better than I can....it's my most accurate rifle. I love the caliber.

The Lapua brass is superb.

My rifle shoots anything from the 85 HP up to 130 Bergers into .3-.4moa. (#5 profile barrel) It loves N540 with the lighter bullets.

And its a simple neck down to make a 6mm HOT Smiler
