Nothing wrong with Ruger 77 Mk II's either. They do take a little tweaking to get to their accuracy potential however, like free floating the barrel, polishing the bore good with JB Bore Paste, and doing a trigger job on them. Glass bedding not required. The 257 Ruger 77 I have now will hold its own against all comers in the accuracy department, after doing the tweaking.

NeverflinchI bought my Savage 12 VLP in .204 because of it's accuracy, not it's price. It really wasn't that cheap as far a Savages go either. I also think it's a very good looking rifle. I polished the bolt and mounted a Zeiss Conquest 6.5x20x50 and have never had anyone say they thought it was ugly. As a matter of fact it get's nothing but praise......go figure.

CoyoteKiller82I don't own one, but both my brother's recently purchased Savages in 7 MM WSM and they don't look purty till you see them shoot....then all ugliness dissipates! ALthough my brother did spend a considerable amount of time holding my Tikka T3 lite, then shouldering his Savage. He says the Tikka is a heck of a lot nicer, but for a few hundred less $'s....he's shooting one heck of an accurate rifle! (Not saying my Tikka isn't a darn accurate rifle

she can print sub MOA all day long if I do my part!)

Red C.Just wanted to say that I enjoyed the poll. I don't think it is unfair to Savages. I would much rather have a Mercedez but I own a Ford because I can't afford a Mercedez. I'm glad there are Fords and I'm not ashamed to own one. Because I can't afford certain other brands of guns I buy Vanguards and Savages. I'm not ashamed of my Vanguards and Savages, and I'm happy some people can afford more expensive guns. Savage fills a needed niche, just like Fords and Chevys.
Red C.
Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion.

DWrightSavage?.. . . . Savage. . . . ?
I stand corrected. . . . I always thought it was "Salvage"!

SevensEven if I couldn't sell the rifle, I'd still pick the H&H. It would be similar to asking me what car would I pick under the same circumstances; the Bugatti Veyron. The Holland and the Veyron are such uber-expensive luxuries that I will most likely never own either, seems crazy to pass up the opportunity to own one for free.
Can't say I own a Savage though. I know they work, just can't get past that odd looking bolt.

Bob in TXThree of my rifles are Savages: a tupperware 22-250, a Model 11 300 WSM, and a 7mm-08 Model 14 American Classic.
I also drive a Dakota Crew Cab because I can afford it. If VD was going to buy me a truck, I would take a tricked out F-250 Crew Cab.
I am not sure this thread(s) really proves anything.

FWIW....I drive a 10-year old F-150 with 302,000 miles on it.....my house is less than 1000 sq-ft including the basement so I'm very interested in thrift....same as everyone else....

Cheap might be a harsh description. It implies poor-quality junk.
Value may be a more fair statement.
